It's been over a year since I lost my best friend and I still cry. I had a really hard time as well. I found comfort in finding ways to honor my baby. I wrote a poem that I will post below, I had my favorite picture of us put on a large canvas, and the most precious thing I did was have a custom urn made. I chose one of my favorite pictures of her and she used to like to go outside occasionally and just sit on our brick wall, so I had a brick included, which is the actual urn. I will include pictures. The urn was only $300, which I think is extremely reasonable for being custom made (I believe the company name was something like cats big and small or great and small - you can google it). What helped me a lot as well was fostering a litter of kittens. I was home from work due to complicstions with my own surgery and was able to bottle feed 5 kittens, from 10 days old. I ended up keeping one. They brought so much sunshine back into my dark world.

Kitty, My Baby Girl

We found each other in a special place 14 years ago
I opened my car door and there you were, talking up a storm

You jumped into my lap so trustingly, putting a huge smile on my face
The brightest light to shine in my life, the light I soon called Kitty

From day one what you loved the most was kneading in my hair
I'd hold you till you'd fall asleep, sometimes on top of my head
I knew, for whatever reason, that this would comfort you
I want you to know, my baby girl, it comforted me too

The connection we had was so deep, beyond what anyone could understand
Your precious blinks said everything, I was there at your command
In your final days and final hours, our bond was stronger than ever
I felt your pain, and you felt mine, we tried everything to save each other

I knew the moment you had left, I was begging God to save you
A wave of silence came over me, bright light filled the room
As I looked up all I could think of was how much you've been through
For you to go suffering the way you did and there was nothing I could do

Now I stare at your empty bed and the window that you loved
Hoping soon I will wake from this dream, and hold you in my arms

Oh, baby girl... I call out while tears run down my face
Finding it hard to catch my breath, I'm so sorry it happened this way

I hope more than anything that as time passes on you will show us some signs
That you are here with us, no longer in pain, blinking those beautiful green eyes

Baby girl, the amount of love I have for you is impossible to explain
I know though that you felt it, I loved you so much
I loved you more than anything

Loving you always,

Mommy

P.S.
Your little brother is mourning too
Sleeping in your bed and searching for you around the house
I hear his cries and comfort him
Holding him now, as I once held you, when you were around

What a wonderful tribute , your poem definitely lets the love you shared shine through for the world to see! My heart goes out to you, I know the pain of a broken heart, especially when those anniversaries come and go and the pain returns like a tsunami and drowns us in our sorrow. You are going on with your life, and doing wonderful things in your baby's name, that is what she would have wanted, because she loved you above all else and returned that love twofold. I pray you are blessed for passing on her legacy of love to those who so desperately need love and care here on this earth, she is so proud of you!

There is that one special cat that bonds with our soul and is special beyond special, and that was Kitty for you. She will always be with you in spirit, the bond you share can never be taken or destroyed, not even death can break it for as long as you live. Kitty is at peace now, free of pain and secure in knowing she will never be forgotten and loved on this earth forever, held in a loving heart  and memorialized in poems and beautiful memories. Know you are not alone in your anguish, there are others who share your pain, try not to dwell on the end, but celebrate what she brought into your life and the love that will live on in your heart forever. I'll pray for you both, please give that little brother a kiss from me and take care..........

PS I just LOVE that urn you had made, I really thought it was a picture of your little one, it is so masterfully done! I will try to google it, I would like to have one made in memory of those who have meant so much to me.

I am so sorry for your loss.  The poem is a lovely tribute.  I love the pictures of your beautiful girl.  The first one especially says so much about your bond, it brought tears to my eyes.  Bless you.
