I get paid once a month. I write a list of necessities. I go to the store, forget teh list, and spend 35 minutes wandering around trying to remember what was on my list. Or I remember the list, and never fail to leave the store forgetting the items I needed most.

However EVERY MONTH i buy cat food and litter. I stock up for Comet.

Frozen veggies are almost as good as fresh.
Is there no way you can order on the internet?
Meat? What's that? I can't afford to buy meat which I why I eat so much chicken
I'm not sure about where everyone else lives, but chicken is very expensive here. I love it but only buy it when it's on sale otherwise it's too expensive.

Meat is mostly imported. And has to be Koshered. Prices are ridiculous. When I used to cook if buy a large piece which cost almost $100.

i keep a running grocery list, and shop once every 4-6 weeks. i don't drive, so make do with this routine. i meal plan, base my grocery list on the meal plan, and always buy a little extra -- in case the next shopping trip is delayed. i buy in bulk when it's things i use a lot of or often/will use, and portion and freeze meats. i freeze my milk gallons, but don't buy then freeze my bread. i don't like the bread after it's been frozen, so i make fresh bread as i need it using the bread machine. i buy my bread making supplies in bulk too. i generally stick to my list when shopping.

We have a running list on the fridge door, and hubby takes care of the weekly shopping since he generally has the car and can handle cases of water, etc.. I pick up a few smaller items at different stores as needed.

I go to the independent market once a week to pick up a a locally produced milk, maybe locally produced maple yogurt. Sometimes I'll buy fruit or veggies and store made baked goods. I go to the chain supermarket maybe once a month to stock up on other groceries. A trip to BJs for bulk paper goods and cat litter and free boxes is maybe every other month.

I don't usually write a list of what I need. Occasionally I'll forget to buy something but it's usually not something I desperately need.

Does anyone here completely rely on online grocery shopping? Some supermarket chains have this option. I prefer to shop in a store and be able choose what I want.

Chicken has gone up in price here!  And I live surrounded by chicken farms all over the area.  When I was a kid; it was the cheaper meat so we at a lot of it!  Now beef is cheaper.  I don't use pork unless it's ground pork to mix with beef for meatballs or the occasional ham or bacon.
I've been using a lot of ground turkey in place of ground beef too.  That's usually reasonable.  I try to plan for using both chicken and beef every week so we don't get tired of eating the same kind of meat.  My kids aren't huge chicken fans.  Or any meat that requires chewing really.  Drives me nuts sometimes.

I go almost every day to buy ingredients for dinner, then I pick up things that last through more than one meal while there when I'm out. I've started going slightly less since we just started getting a service that delivers the ingredients for 3 meals once/week, but that sort of amounts to the same thing, just with delivery instead of me going to the supermarket. The supermarket is also about 300 meters away from me which significantly changes the cost-benefit analysis for me compared to people who need to actually travel to shop. I'm fairly sure I've been to parking lots in the states where the furthest spots are farther from the door than my apartment is.

I love to go to the grocery store. I'm retired so I have the time to go 2 or 3 times a week. We have several stores in the area and I go to the ones that are having the best sales. I only wish we had a Whole Foods or a Wegmans stores. When I get the chance to go to those two stores I easily spend my whole retirement check. They may be a little high but they have the best groceries.

I do eat more chicken and ground turkey than anything else, but I have to have red meat at least twice a week.  I have recurrent anemia, and they don't know quite why, but the red meat keeps it down to a low roar.  I really prefer to eat just chicken and turkey.  And veggies, or course.  Most of the frozens are just fine, but I have a real love of bell peppers, green, red, and yellow.  Not the orange quite so much, although I do like it.  Also squash and avocados, not available frozen in a form I like.  Ordering off of internet is a possibility.  There aren't many options in my area, but I hear that a local produce market I'm fond of is going online for delivery this next spring.  I'll give that a try.

I haven't got to ordering on line but I'm sure the day will come. My sister does it in England.

I only have one place to buy groceries in my area and that's the local supermarket which isn't very good.
The cat food and litter I order by telephone and it gets delivered. I have to order food. Mustn't forget.

I love to check out the dollar stores when I go shopping. We have three. Two are discount type and one store everything is only one dollar. They all three sell a lot of grocery items, canned and boxed goods, etc. as well as things in jars. Plus they have a lot of paper items, toiletries, cleaning items.
I buy a lot of things there that I don't mind using their off brand.

Actually this is a very good way to save money.  You get an ongoing balance and that alone will help curtail those impulse purchases.  Every time I go the store, which is about twice a week, I get more stuff than I came for.  So, ordering online can save you money in the long run even though you have to pay someone else to do it.

As long as you get rotten stuff or stuff you didn't order. My sister seems happy but not for much longer. She's coming here soon.

I take my grocery list to the dollar store first. I am amazed at the name brands they pack in at discount prices.

I've never found much in the way of bargains at the Dollar Store, except for things like utensils.  As for food, doesn't seem that much cheaper than finding it on sale or going to Walmart. Maybe I have a bad Dollar Store here?

Just check the use by date. A lot of these shops sell either out of date or nearly out of date, except in can't understand what could happen if tinned stuff is a little out of date. After all, what happened before dates were put on? Nothing! OK. Forget I spoke.
