How long can you leave cat food out. I have two cats and every morning at five am I open a can. They eat just about half the can maybe less. If I put the rest in the fridge and take it out for dinner they will not eat it because it is cold . They will not eat it if I microwave it either. So I always open a new can. I also give them dry that I leave out all day.

I generally give Ruby fresh wet food in a clean dish around 6 AM.   Then I cover the leftovers and put the can in the fridge.   If I'm going to be home, I split the serving in half and give her more around noon.

Then I give her a fresh serving in a clean dish around 5 PM.   I microwave it for a few seconds just to take off the chill.  I then leave the can (covered) on the counter until around 7 PM when I give her the rest.  Sometimes she will eat it all before I go to bed.  Sometimes there is still food in the dish and I leave it for her.  Occasionally there is still some in her dish when I get up at 6 the next morning, and I try to take it away from her before she eats it, even though it is usually still moist.

I add a tiny bit of water to the wet food each time I put some in her dish.   I don't worry too much about leaving it out all day, except in the summer time when it gets really hot.

I don't feed Ruby dry food anymore, but I don't think there's any concern at all with leaving it out for long periods of time.

I think for the most part leaving wet food out all day is fine. You can add extra water to it to help keep it moist. Can you buy the food you're feeding in smaller cans? What about taking it out of the fridge an hour or two before your'e going to feed it so it's not cold?

Thank you for your advice. I think I think I will put the food out an hour before they eat. As long as it is ok
