Please be sure that the food is warm when you feed them! Kittens can't digest cold food or when they're cold.

Good luck with all. We'd love more photos.

Mummy cat is very erratic with them, keeps getting up and wandering off. Kittens haven't really gained weight., though are all quite lively. I've tried to give them more glop but not taking any. The Royal Canin KMR should be delivered very soon.

It's not unusual for a mama cat to be restless and a bit standoffish with her new kittens the first 24 hours or so. It's a transition period before she settles in nicely, but do re-direct her back to nurse her kittens. She may have afterpains and spotting as well.

The kittens must begin gaining weight immediately. Yours have no room for trial and error. You need to give them the glop mixture or the KMR whether they like it or not. This means you wrap the kitten in a cloth like a burrito, with only the head sticking out. You go drop by slow drop, with a syringe, to get the milk in them. If they don't gain, they won't thrive. Once they are gaining and growing they are out of danger.

It's a positive sign they are lively. Have you seen them nursing today? Do they mew much?

That's fantastic! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

That's a huge gain since birth. In fact, those are normal weights for newborns. They must have nursed non-stop the last 24 hours. It's the first time I've ever seen such a gain in the first day.

Earlier this morning you said they had not gained weight. Now they've gained 30-50 grams apiece. Are you sure your scale was right when you weighed them?

I'm glad they are thriving though!

surprisingly yes the scales were right. I weighed something I knew the weight of. I double checked both. Maybe mums milk was slow to come in. I don't know am just guessing. Still am glad they are no longer a scary weight anymore.

They do appear to be healthy weights and sized babies, perhaps the weights yesterday were somehow off, these darn scales, I know my smaller digital scale's accuracy can vary depending on if I put something on it gently or abruptly, so maybe that makes a difference with yours too.

All I know is for the first day I have never had kitten weights nearly double, but let's let it go now that they are at good/decent weights.

Just so you know, the smallest and less feisty get the undesirable nipples, the lower 4 are the faves always, so any more than 4 kittens nursing, you will find the same baby not allowed to nurse from the best ones, and may need your help and intervention, either with supplementation or pulling the 2 biggest out and placed in a heated small box while the 5th baby is allowed to nurse from the prime spots :)

Just watch that with an eagle's eye, newborns are super fragile, and the minute you notice a change, it is usually too late to get them turned around again, so I'd use the scale to monitor this.

Doing great!

Mom will settle down soon, as long as you know that her nesting place is as private and quiet with no traffic walking past or commotion/other pets, it's a good spot.

If the agitation doesn't stop soon or she tries to move any, then that is her problem, she is not happy with the place to tend to her babies.

How are the kittens today? Still nursing well and gaining? Has mom settled down now? [emoji]128522[/emoji]

We've had a busy 24 hrs. Our other cat Boo had 4 little babies. All good weights. Midna still being an erratic Mum she keeps putting one of her babies out of the nest and leaving him by the bedroom door. Boo is a brilliant mummy - she is so caring and is constantly stroking them whilst they feed.
This morning Boo got quite distressed I think she could sense the little one that was being rejected. After a lot of thought we have given Boo the little one and she's calmed down and is feeding him too. Midna hasn't noticed she has one missing!

Wow all 9 are boys? My rescue cat Saffy who I posted about here months ago had a litter of 8! Love to see the other kittens.
