Talking peanut I already know I'm just stating other facts for those who maybe from say the UK and are reading this and get annoyed they can't find say glucose syrup or light karo corn syrup etc. I know how to deal with most issues with runts but like I said this is the first runt that I have had this tiny and requiring glucose in some form.

How is the honey working for you?  Is it giving the runt enough energy to eat?

I live in the US and yesterday is the only time I've see glucose in the store.  Luckily Karo syrup is easy to find.

yes the honey seems to be working I have only had to hand feed her maybe 2 times after so much she would refuse it and I would put her back with mum and put her on a tit and she nursed just fine she is about 1.8 oz today so I'm hopeful she will keep improving.. Now if I could just get their mother to stop trying to put kitten in bed with use or take them out of the box and drop them on the cold metal floor in their crate I would be happy. ps. it did have blankets covering the whole thing until mum decided to move all the blankets.

I live in the UK now and cant find light karo unless I go online and wait days and paid a small fortune. idk if my local stores sell it in the baking area and we dont really have baking suplly stores
I can imagine sport stores for athletes should have it - both in bigger packages and in small tabletes, just to take in mouth and go.

In Sweden we have commonly glucose sugar in powder  often on the baking shelves, but may be among other sugars as well.

There is also glucose syrup which you mentioned - a little more costly than the other baking syrups, but surely contain more of glucose.

And these flavored tablets, often among candies.  May be used as candy, but also by students, athletes, you name it. gives quick energy for all.

But honey in water solution should work too.  Take a semi-solid honey, and put it in warm water to dissolve.  Very fresh honey tends to be fluidy - this is OK.

Fluid honeys whom stay fluids "drop in your yoghurt" tends to have a higher inhold of fructose.

Woke up this morning to a very weak little fae (runt kitten) took mum and babies to vet this morning. The vet is worried as she has lost weight but like me does not want to count the kitten out just yet. Vet could not find anything wrong physcially but she areed that maybe the kitten could just not have pooed and that might be another cause. Told me if I want to give her 24-48 hrs and give her more honey stright into the mouth and feed her and clean her and keep her warm. both me and my husband did not want to give up just yet either to be fair but she has a 50/50 chance so to me that is better then nothing. We both agreed tho if she shows no improvment in the next 24-48 hrs we will do the right thing and end any suffering that she is going through.. But to me I will feel like a failure as I have never lost a runt and really do not want to but that is life and it can be cruel!

The baby needs to be fed every hour AROUND THE CLOCK to survive. She is premature by birthweight and needs to be treated as though she is critical. If she were a human baby she would be in the neonatal intensive care unit at a hospital, hooked up to monitors, feeding tubes, and in an incubator for warmth, and being monitored 24/7.

Saving the runt will require vigilance and an hourly commitment until she gains enough weight to be "out of the woods." Many runts under this type of care can make astonishing turnarounds, but it can sometimes take a couple of weeks. A real hazard is when the baby is not fed through the night. Many of our forumists have sacrificed sleep to save runts.

How much and how often are you giving honey and supplementing the kitten? How much does she weigh today? Is she staying warm?

Since she is barely over an ounce, she is probably too tiny and weak to suckle mom much at all. She needs 1 mL every single hour. She can stay with mom and siblings in between, but you will be her sole feeder for now. She MUST be warm to eat and digest. I suggest you try feeding her on the hour every hour today and tonight. Let mom stimulate her for potty. You can put a drop of honey into her formula at each feeding. 1 mL is a tiny amount. She may try to reject the feeding, but you must go drop by drop whether she likes it or not. It will become easier as she gets used to it. Are you using a 1 mL syringe?

@Sarthur I know what needed to be done and how it needed to be treated. I gave her only a little drop if you could all it that of honey and was using milk replacer fully for the last 2 days. Sadly little fae lost her battle a hr ago even tho we to her to the vet and she was "treated" the vet did not want to give up just yet n her and we all agreed to give it 24hrs sadly this little one did not make it.. Her brothers and sisters are doing very well thankfully.

I'm sorry you lost her. You tried very hard. It's always sad when a kitten doesn't make it. I'm glad the other five are doing well!

I agree with SArthur. Im Deep sorry if I wasnt enough clear earlier on what to do.  And yes, take the safe before the unsafe, and take charge of the feeding.  If she manages take somewhat from mom, this is sheer bonus, but dont count on this.

The chances are lesser than 50% with these petite weigh, but surely bigger than nil, so its just to fight it out.  As fighting on is the ONLY chance.

Your only real plus is she has access to a caring and loving mom - not all have this.   The rescuer in my sorrowful example hadnt.

I'm so sorry little Fae lost her battle, although you fought for her, it was not to be. To lose such a small and helpless creature breaks the heart, the world is a darker place without her in it, but her little star shines bright in the heavens. May she stay warm and protected on an angels lap at the Rainbow Bridge. Rip sweet one, you will be forever held in a loving heart!

Little fae is safe in the land of the faires. Yes I'm a oddie but thats ok lol. Our vet seem just as if not more upset then me and my husband about her passing. I think she was tempted to ask to do a after death search of her to see if maybe there was something she missed. The other 5 babies are doing well tho and their mother is driving me nuts lol. She keeps moving one kitten (random) here there and every where and then she acts like she is suprised the kitten is their.

she keeps meowing her head off to can't figure it out really I have had may cats and their babies in the past but never one that would not shut up no matter were she or the babies are (which they are never far from her).

I'm wondering if she is meowing because she is not happy where her nest is? Perhaps she would feel that her kittens are safer in a more private place such as a closet with the door opened just enough for mom to enter and exit. Where is her nest located in your home?
