Hi. My cat Oliver got an identity chip installed a year ago, and now the database company, HomeAgain, is asking for $17.99 for another year's worth of being in their database.

That seems very steep. Are there any cheaper alternatives?

If my cat is lost and then found, do shelters/vets only look in one particular database? Or can I shop around? Is there a list of "approved" databases?

Thanks,

David

Actually,  Home Again is FREE after the initial registration
You do not need to pay for the yearly membership / subscription unless you want the extra services. Your cat's microchip and all of the contact information remains in the database for life. Just remember to keep the contact info  up to date

If pet owners decide not to renew their annual membership, will their pets’ microchip ID codes and information still remain in the HomeAgain database?

Once entered in the HomeAgain database, microchips are registered for life, whether or not pet owners renew their annual memberships, and contact information may be updated online anytime free of charge by logging into HomeAgain.com. However, if a non-member’s pet is lost, they are not eligible for the value-added benefits included with the annual HomeAgain membership, such as proactive outreach to local PetRescuer volunteers, medical insurance for lost pets, travel assistance for found pets, the 24/7 medical hotline, etc.
