My Ragamuffin is 7 years old. She started vomitting several times a day on 1/15 and 1/16. However, her appetite was fine and did not appear in distress. 1/17 I put her on water only and she stopped vomiting but noted her stool that day was black. 1/18 she shows interest in eating, but when I give her dry food she doesn't eat. I also noticed she no longer purrs when I pet her. Today, the 19th, I caved and gave her a small amount of wet organic cat food which she scarfed down. I haven't been home yet to see if she started throwing up again as she hasn't eaten in almost 3 days and hasn't popped in 2 days but I assume that's because she hasn't eaten. She seems more tired than usual but otherwise seems herself and in no distress, again I assume it's because she hasn't eaten. Anyone have any advice other than going to the vet? I plan on taking her if she starts throwing up again.

If your cat has not eaten for 3 days other than a small amount today, this is a medical emergency and you have to go to the vet unless she starts eating a lot more, immediately. Cats are not like humans and most other mammals who can survive on just water for many days and in some cases even weeks- cats truly cannot go more than about 2 days without eating without a very real possibility of experiencing very bad side effects, and the longer after that that no eating occurs, the higher the chances of their experiencing these side effects.  The most common of these is hepatic lipidosis or fatty liver disease. Untreated, this is fatal, and to treat it would be a lot more time consuming and have a lot higher vet bills than just taking her to the vet now, or just feeding her the organic wet food that she'll actually eat. It is truly essential that your cat go to the vet or begin eating immediately. I also am puzzled about why you are hesitating to feed her the food she actually is willing to eat.

I am not meaning to sound harsh or alarmist, but this really is a serious situation at this point and your cat is at risk or serious medical complications or even death. Something needs to be done immediately.

Agreed that this cat needs to go to a vet. Black stool is not normal and usually a sign of bleeding. You also don't want to restrict food from a cat who wants to eat and is unwell, as explained above.

Thank you for the responses. I didn't realize the gravity of her not eating for 2 days. Thankfully she didn't throw up today and I gave her her full serving of wet food as soon as I got home and will feed her again soon to make sure her nutrients get replenished. The good news she is purring again when I pet her and playing with her toys again. I took tomorrow off and will most likely take her to the vet to get everything checked out. Thank you again for your help!

Especially have the vet look at her teeth. If she's refusing dry food but eating wet food, that would be my first guess.
