Has anyone ever heard of a kitten being born without a sphincter? She has a butthole and she can poo.. Kinda it's hard for her. She's about 10 weeks old we rescued her from a lady that didn't want to deal with her "pooping issues" and got rid of the mother cat way to early. Anyways we brought her home and took her to the vet a couple days after we got her because her butthole seemed very swollen I thought it was from feeding her the wrong food. But it didn't get any better. The vet prescribed us a couple topical creams and showed me how to express the poo myself and keep the area clean. In my opinion it looks much much better. At our check up today the vet informed me that she thinks she maybe missing her sphincter. And that this is an issue that can't be fixed. And advises that if in two weeks when we come back again and it's not completely better we should put her to sleep, because she'll need help pooing for the rest of her life. The vet also said that her vagina might be too close to her butthole which could lead to infections for the rest of her life. I really don't want to put her to sleep I don't have a lot of money. But I can't fathom putting this little tiny happy hoppy adorable kitten to sleep. Makes me cry even thinking about it. The doctor says if she's lacking the sphincter there isn't a surgery she can do to fix it or make one. [emoji]128555[/emoji] I'm hoping someone here has heard of or dealt with this?!? And that it turned out fine?!? And maybe there is a surgey to fix it?!? Please help!!! I'm so devestated!
this is what her bottom looks like right now.

This is her adorable little tiny face that I can't stand to part with [emoji]128557[/emoji]

Hi Eric.

I've never experienced this, but I've found a couple of threads about other kittens born with an imperforate anus

http://www.thecatsite.com/t/256538/ben-imperforate-anus

http://www.thecatsite.com/t/71206/kitten-still-having-constipation-problems

Apparently there is surgery that can be performed, if you Goggle it you might be able to find out a bit more about it.

Hope this helps, she is adorable.
Hey, I actually read those posts before I posted this one. I've tried googling everything! Lol my search history is so weird. "Missing sphincter" "kitten missing butthole" "reconstructive sphincter surgery for kittens" I can't find anything that really looks or seems similar. [emoji]128532[/emoji] I'm starting to loose hope. Thank you for responding though.

I Googled Imperforate Anus. Cats and came up with a few results.

One thing you could do is look for a veterinary medicine university and ask if they would be willing to treat the kitten. I guess it's not the kind of surgery many vets get chance to perform, you'd have better chance of finding a vet who could do this in a big teaching hospital.

That's the issue what the imperforate anus. She has one. She can poop. She just doesn't have the muscle at the end that holds it in or pushes it all the way out. It's hard to research it because I don't know what it is. The doctor said we might be able to go to Davis. Which is a school. But she said it'll cost like 3000 dollars and I can't afford that at all.
