So Ben has always had his momma cleaning him or diarrhea. Now that he's older 5 weeks, he's been using the litterbox for the past 10 days or so. I always noticed his stools were thinner than they should be. About half of what his siblings produce.

He's been constipated all week. Pooping little bits at a time. He does alot of straining, most times only producing a blip. Around his anus is protruding and he still has sores under the opening and on his testicles.

I now imperforate anus is "no" anus but I think there is some sort of anatomical problem with his rectum/bum. He used to pee normally but now it dribbles and the colour looks milky.

It would explain his failure to thrive. He is still active, eating, playing. But still frail looking.

I think he needs to see a vet and I'm devastated at the possible outcome.

So, I've been doing alot of research and perhaps it's more like a anal stricture or stenosis.

I am going to take him tomorrow or Tuesday to the vet.

So, I took Ben to the vet. He thinks he's pooping around some hard constipated stool. He's given  me Laxatone to give orally, Lactulose to give both orally and to mix in some warm water and give as an enema. I have a baby rectal tube. My sister is coming in to help.

He started throwing up last night :( . His nausea seems better today. He's till active and playing.

I've taken momma away for a few hours so I can tell if he's pooping or throwing up. She tends to clean everything up.

So I gave him about .2ml of Laxatone and .1ml of Lactulose. I am to repeat the lactulose every 6 to 8 hours til he poops.

So if anyone has time..do the poopy dance for little Ben ..lol :)

It's amazing how poop can make one so happy...

I took Ben back to the vet's today. He had a horrible night. The enema didn't work and neither did the lactolose. He was crying out like he was trying to give birth to a baby that wouldn't come. He vomited last night again. He looked so depressed and didn't want to eat or drink for me. He lost weight over night.... I was beginning to think the worse.

When I got him to the office he had two small pea size bits. The vet manipulated his tummy and thought he still had lots in him. He physically squeezed a bit more out with Ben pushing and crying. :( Then he gave him sub q fluids then an enema.... Finally ..he had a big poop! And is kept coming!! He pood more in 15 minutes then he's done in 3 weeks.  He was shaking, he was so traumatized. I brought him home and before I got to the house I could smell more poo!!

He had another big one.

Now, it's dripping out of him. As I was cleaning the room and replacing blankets he actually went over and started to eat some kibble.

I offered some wet and he took about a tbsp. He's just so so exhausted.

I gave him another dose of lactulose at vet as I hadn't given any today, but now that he seems to have passed the worst of it, do I stop? Or should I keep it up?

Such a long post ... and all about poop. Only on TCS. :)

Yay for the biggest poop ever!

I think you should ask the Vet if you should continue the Lactulose, but since it's mainly given for constipation, and the little guy shouldn't still be constipated after all that, I wouldn't think he would still need it.  (but I would still ask the Vet)

Yes, I gave him a dose tonight but will be calling the vet in the morning to update him.

Ben is ravenous! He was running like a mad man after his momma trying to suckle.

He's so much happier tonight. Playing again and enjoying food.

His sisters hit the 1 pound mark tonight, his brother 14 oz and Ben is 12 oz but it's all in his belly!

His bum isn't protruding as much.

Gosh I hope this is finally his turn around point. I don't think either one of us can take any more bad luck!

Ben has had a good day. He had some bloody/mucousy diarrhea this morning. I expected as much with the amount of stuff we introduced to his poor intestines.

This evening seems a bit better. When I gave him his wet food at dinner time, he didn't immediately run to the litter box. Curled up and had a sleep.

His poor bum is raw because his sphincter has lost it's ability to close properly after being so constipated for so long. I sat his bum in some warm water to get rid of any feces.

I'm alternating polysporin and bag balm to help with inflammation and try to keep a barrier between his skin and poop.

I went in again a little while ago and his bum looked clean. I just gave him some water which he drank. (he does go to the bowl on his own, I'm just trying to hydrate him)

His weight is staying steady at just over 12oz.

I'll be watching his weight and poops carefully. I'm hoping he can find that happy medium between constipation and diarrhea! Here's a pic from two nights ago of him and his sister Jenny.

He is just too cute and tiny!

I am so glad to hear he is doing better! Hopefully everything clears up and is normal in the poop department soon!

Ben GAINED weight overnight..even without my help. His poop looked more like toothpaste this morning. :)))

He's playing with his siblings and eating well.

He's just a little miracle. Thank you all for your support... it means so much.

I want to thank YOU for sharing Ben with all of us. Even though we don't know him, you have made it seem like we do and I, for one, have come to love him. We all care because we are animal lovers with the cat being at the top of the list. I too was extremely happy about Ben pooping!
Please keep us posted, it's only through you we can continue to know him. He is living proof that love can produce miracles (and all your hard work) Please Ben, know there are many who are pulling for you, and just as many praying! Keep up the good work!  Many vibes your way -

hi, i know how you feel about being happy to see poop ive got a 5 month old kitten who was born with an imperforate anus, according to my vet there are various degrees of this condition mine unfortunately has one of the worse degrees of it, anyway long story short after numerous enemas and her being on enough lactolose to ensure she never had hard stools, the vet x rayed her and discovered she had no opening in that region

2 months after the vet did an operation for free after never seeing this condition as bad as hers.

So was the operation a success?  How wonderful of your Vet to do the surgery for free

I hope your little girl has many good poops in her future

She will be getting spayed in a couple of months and theyre hoping to do a few adjustments from inside to make it better for her. Shes also got megacolon has a result of having no anus shes taking cisapride for that after vet having to go through checks to get it for her
