Fred is a feral cat that we have been taking care of since he was a kitten.  We think he is around 5 years old.  Friday night we noticed that he was drooling a lot and his chest and mouth were very wet.  We weren't sure if he had been throwing up or what.  We brought him in and he is in a large cage that we have for sick cats.  He is very alert and walks around.  He wants his pets. However, he is drooling a lot and can't close his mouth.  He also has his tongue out all the time.  We noticed that his right fang tooth seems to be slanting towards the center of his mouth.  We think this is keeping him from closing his mouth.  Today he seems like he wants to eat the food that I have been trying to give him but he isn't able to.  I have been waiting to make sure he is comfortable being in the cage before I try to look in his mouth.  He will let me pet him and touch him around his mouth.  He wants to rub his face in my hands and on my arms.  We think he has a bad fang tooth.  My biggest concern right now it how to help him eat.  Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this type of situation?  We are thinking we will need to bring him to our vet but just would like to get something in his tummy today.  We are figuring he hasn't eaten anything since Friday during the day.  Thank you.

Hi, do you have some wet food and a sterile syringe you could use. Try to put a little of the gravy in his mouth and rub under his chin to encourage him to swallow.

Failing feeding its very important that you keep his water up. even putting a clean finger in a water bowl and letting him lick it is going to be better than nothing, sounds like you may be in for a long night if you're not able to get him to the vet now

These are classic signs of a painful dental issue for sure.

I would liquify some canned pate food mixed with water and see if he is able to lap it up, and if not, syringing him but be careful not to cause more pain he is already feeling now.

Gently putting the syringe in to the side of his mouth where you don't think there's a problem.

Hopefully he gets to the vet very soon! We all know how purely miserable a toothache is!

Please try to get him to a vet as soon as possible. When cats go a day or more without eating it can cause permanent liver damage, called hepatic lipidosis. It also sounds like he's in pain. Poor baby.

He needs a vet ASAP or the emergency vet.  He could have a broken jaw or some kind of dental problem.  Please get him to the vet immediately.
