my indoor cat got out and was attacked. He had emergency abdominal surgery and had to take him in again due to him chewing on his stitches. They removed them then had to take him back that night due to him splinting open his incision. I've tried distraction and soft collar to get him to stop. Found some success with a warm washcloth, and medicated for pain and stress. I'm looking for something topical that I can put around his stitches to keep him from licking. We had already pain over $1600 on him and $93 for sedation and flush. Any idea to put around his boo boo?

Hello, My experience with my male cat was after his operation they kept the cone around his head until his stitches were removed, which was about a week or so.  Other than a cone I'm not sure how to keep the cat from chewing on his stitches.  Good luck to you.

You can put a onesie for a baby on your cat.  This would go around their middle, and you can cut holes so they can continue using the bathroom normally.

You put deodorant on an incision?? That's a terrible idea. You have no idea if those ingredients are safe for cats and they are likely to block an incision and lead to infection Please carefully wash that off and put him in a onesie for babies or something similar so he can't lick.

No. It wasn't on the incision it was around it. He's at the vet new getting a bandage stitch.

Deodorant is not safe for cats. There are tons of ingredients that are toxic to them, though safe for humans. You're also putting something that smells and feels distressing on a recovering cat. Not a good idea.

Agreed. Please just use a onesie, don't put any topicals on him unless directed to do so by your vet. Whether it be on the incision or otherwise.

UPDATE... mischief went back to the vet last Sat and they removed what stitches were still intact and placed some sort of bandage on him. He has been staying at the vet and is healing nicely and full of spunk. He's getting a lot of attention and love from the vet staff. He's going to be OK. :)
