She is in the hospital now getting fluids. She had ckf and then she wasn't responding and got worse. He levels went up to 11 and she was in acute kidney failure. There may be a kdiney stone. Hoping it passes and she goes back to baseline. She is my family and such a sweet little thing. I don't want her to suffer and I don't want to put her down before she is ready. She was eating a bit. I can go see her at noon.

I had a family member die last month and its just me and Birdie now.  I thought she would maintain for a year or two with good care. My heart is just breaking.

She has been seeing a vet. She got worse. I'll go see her at 2:30.

It nice to have a place to talk about it where people get why you are so upset.

Most people don't get that sometimes a cat IS your family.

When you say levels are at 11, do you mean creatinine? Do you happen to have any lilies in the house? I was asked that when my Lucky got acute renal failure (who was in early CKD already also).

You are doing all the right things right now. I'll keep your baby in my thoughts. This hits close to home.

I'm also glad to hear she is eating a bit. A bit is more than nothing at all which of course would be a lot worse. Did they do a scan of her to see if there was a stone by chance? Or an x-ray?

She's had a few ultasunds. They couldn't see the stone. Not likely now as her kidney is not enlarged at all. She is at home. They said there wasn't anything more they could do. Just trying to make her comfortable for a few days.

I'm so very sorry.  Keep her comfortable and if that isn't possible please give her the final gift with a Vet's help.

Did her creatinine not go down at all, and is she still eating at all? And were you shown how to give subqs? That is pretty typical as it helps with making them feel better during home hospice.

I'm torn on the thought of a 2nd opinion, having gone through this myself. If she is showing any signs of being better - still eating, etc, then I would say yes for a 2nd opinion. But if she's not and her numbers didn't get any better, then it would probably just put Birdie through unneeded stress.

Keeping you in my thoughts and sending healing vibes for you both. And to echo @StephenQ, please be aware of any signs that it is time for the final act of kindness.

Hi. Thanks. My Birdie is sitting leaning against me. I carried her outside for a while. She ate a bit. Gave her some water with syringe. AQ fluids firs time at 4:00. That will keep her more comfortable if she tolerates.
Above is my Birdie a few months ago.

FOR sure. We were keeping a woman's Quaker Parrot, and she got really bad off was already 18 years old.My husband tried for a week to contact the owner,to tell her she needed a vet.. finally left a note in 2 places for her to come by or call . so when she did My hubby took bird to vet and they agreed to put her to sleep for $30.My husband still cried, he is such a softie. We once had a Quaker also. This woman came upon hard times lost everything she had, had given away her other 3 Quakers, and 2 dogs. This was her oldest and favorite Quaker she was wanting us to have it, We really did not want another but he told her we would keep it til she could have her back again. Polly had a place that protruded under her wing, like a cancer or something, she would pick at it til it bled quite a bit , and my hubby was getting more upset by the day when the owner would not answer her phone. to start with she was really good aBOUT COMING TO VISIT Polly ever 2 weeks or so and the bird always was glad to see her...  We had Polly almost a year hoping the owner would be able to take her back...

I had already spent a fortune on Opie and Ally the past month and half but needless to say we paid for the bird also( cannot stand to see something suffer)  but did NOT dare put her down w/o owners permission. She by later to see where Bill had buried her and had another good cry..

I had my vet and she went to the Cornell Specialy vets in Stamford CT. The onlydiagreement was that my vet was pretty sure no kidney stone. Cornell guy seemed to think it might be. Turns out no kidney stone.

well S**   I thought birdie was a bird. I am so sorry. Your cat is named Birdie? How old is she? Hope she gets better but mainly do NOT her suffer needlessly. i thought about having Tigger put down, a year earlier but then he would have goo days and perk up, however when he began pulling out fur by the mouthfuls I knew he was really in pain, and that was the day we took him and he went so very peacefully. I feel for you....Know that many here have you in their thoughts and prayers..

Birdie is so beautiful!

I'm amazed (pleasantly so) that she is eating, even if it's just a bit. My Lucky wouldn't eat the last 5-7 days, and his creatinine was probably a bit lower than Birdie's at that point. And is she able to walk around ok? I'm guessing she's using the litter boxx a lot, Lucky definitely did.
