From central PA, USA....Can somebody give Esther a home? Please? Our brother-in-law has a co-worker whose mother passed away. The lady had three cats and her daughter is taking two of them. There is no way she can take the third cat. Esther is 5-6 years old, shy, but very affectionate once she gets to know you. She's up to date on her shots and she is not declawed. Mike says she's a real sweetie. We simply cannot take on the responsibility for a seventh cat, not with the way things are between Mollipop and Muffin. And now we have Jackie. We cannot. Believe me, if we didn't have our hands full, I'd take this little girl in a heartbeat. What a pretty girl she is! Can somebody please help us? I'd help get her to you.

I have a friend who just lost her second cat in under a year. I've promised that when she's ready for another cat I'll help her find one, and it sounds to me like Esther might be perfect for her. However, she has small children. How is Esther with kids?

I'd have to foster Esther for a while until my friend is ready. I've emailed the friend who got Jasmine for me, asking whether she's always been an only cat; I won't volunteer for this if I think Jasmine might bully Esther.

Also, what kind of canned food is Esther accustomed to getting?

I live in the Denver area; it would mean flying Esther in to DIA, where I could pick her up, followed by a long car ride home. How traumatic would this be for her? I have no experience with shipping cats, but the cargo hold of a plane sounds to me like a bad way to travel, and I don't believe they're heated.

Hi Everyone:

I wish I could take Esther, but I am in Florida, and already have four.  And another one is trying to adopt us.  Good luck and God Bless!  :)

Esther would not deal with being flown anywhere, I'm afraid. She's pretty stressed as it is right now after losing her person. And there's no way I'd let her in the cargo hold; I've heard way too many horror stories.

Thank you anyway.

According to 'Homer's Odyssey' by Gwen Cooper, there are some airlines that allow a cat in a carrier on board, as long as it can fit under the front seat.  Gwen wrote of her experience several years ago, so you would need to contact the airline and see what the current policies are.  This also means you need to be ready to take a rip by airline.

Good luck!

I've flown Southwest with my cat. As long as the carrier fits under your seat. Just look for one that is airline approved. I do recommend a harness and leash as you will have to uncrate so the carrier can be inspected. I have no idea of the rates now but different airlines were from 80-125 then. You might be able to find a way to post a plea for someone going that way to take her.

As I recall, Gwen got friends to fly with her cats. A better (cheaper) option would be to find someone who's planning to fly anyway and ask them to take her along. When I was in college on the west coast, there was a bulletin board where we put up car pool requests when we wanted to travel home for the holidays. Maybe a poster on the bulletin board in the local grocery store?

There's a wonderful group that I found via Facebook that transports kitties all over the USA and sometimes into Canada.  This is a volunteer group, and they do not charge anything.  If Esther can be found a home, but transportation is an issue, please PM me and I'll get the contact information to you.

There we go, then. The friend who found Jasmine for us believes that she came from a multi-cat home, but is still checking. (I don't want to take a chance that Jasmine would bully a cat who is already traumatized, and I've never had a chance to observe Jasmine with other cats.) I believe I should have a definite answer by Tuesday. If, in fact, Jasmine does know how to get along with other cats, then we can foster Esther until she can find a forever home — I've already cleared it with my husband. I'm assuming, of course, that we can resist Esther sufficiently to allow her to be adopted by someone else. Either way, Esther is provided for. :high5:

Let me know via pm...oh wait, I'll pm my email address to you.  Then you can email me, and I'll get the URL for the transport group to you.

Yes, it was one cat per person, and she had three, so she had  to have friends do with.  This before 9/11 and the TSA and all of that.

It appears that we now have a better solution. Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 has found a volunteer organization that transports cats to new homes across the country, apparently by relaying them. Slower, but should be easier on the cat. And no need to deal with TSA or high air fares at all.

So is Esther making a trip to the Dever area ?
We don't know yet. The friend who got Jasmine for us hasn't yet been able to verify that Jasmine came from a multi-cat household. Her former human may be out of town for the holidays or something. Until we know that Jasmine is cool with other cats I don't want to commit to this; we don't want Esther to be bullied.

Keeping our fingers crossed.

it is so wonderful that you are looking out for Esther.
Actually, I think everyone who has happened onto this thread is looking out for her. People have been coming up with possible travel solutions, trying to think of people they know who need a new cat, saying things like "I would if I could." Face it. This is a community of people who are fond of cats. People outside of this community would say we're insane on this subject, and none of us care, nor should we. It's none of their business. It is our business. Cats give us joy, and we follow our joy. Rescuing a fur baby who is grieving the loss of her human can only increase the amount of joy in the world, and even the people who think we're insane would agree that that's a good thing.
