Hi, A few weeks ago, I took in a Mama cat and her kittens. The kittens have since been adopted out to new loving homes. According to my vet, the kittens were around 4 months old. Mama cat was due to be spayed on January 5th.

Over the past week, we began to suspect Mama cat is pregnant again. We took her to the vet today and they think she is around 5 or 6 weeks pregnant. My vet didn't seem overly concerned about Mama cat having two pregnancies so close together.I have been reading over the forums and see that others have expressed concern over a cat having two litters of kittens close together.

I am wondering what are the concerns and what I should watch for with Mama' cat?

She will be fine if you are feeding her plenty of kitten chow and wet food for calories. The fact she is no longer nursing gives her several weeks to build her reserves.

In general it wears a cat's reserves down to produce back to back litters. Please do not let her outside now or at any time after the kittens are born, as she can get pregnant again very soon after giving birth, and can pick up fleas and parasites in the meantime which will be transmitted to the babies.

Go ahead and de-flea and de-worm her now, and plan to spay her when this litter is 8 weeks old.

Thank you for caring for her!

Calcium deficiency is a concern.  The first litter may have depleted her stores.  Can you give her a little KMR or Goats milk every day.  Egg shells crushed into a powder can be mixed with her food for calcium as well.
