Anyone know of something healthy to sprinkle on top of wet food so my babies will eat it? I came across a blog post online once with some suggestions - now I can't find it!

I've tried Purebites but neither kitty is going for it :-/.

I'm sure something fishy would work, but I have concerns about them getting addicted to it & not eating the food without it, since a lot of fish isn't good for them.

What has worked for you guys?

FortiFlora is often a very successful topper to get cats eating a new food.

Have you tried different flavours of Purebites? Sometimes one flavour will work where another has failed. Crumbled freeze dried raw food can sometimes work too (Primal, Instinct, Stella and Chewy's etc). Finely grated parmesan is another option. You can find more ideas here[article="31138"][/article]

I second Stella and Chewys.  My pickier cat didn't recognize the chicken one as food until I introduced her to the fish flavors.  After that, she started liking the chicken flavors as well.  She probably had to get used to the texture.  I still try not to use the fish flavors much, but I think one nugget a day isn't all that bad.

I also use Primal, Stella & Chewy's or Pure Bites.

Good luck!

PureBites isn't the only  brand of freeze dried treats out there
There are many others and there's bound to be one your cat likes. PureBites does have freeze dried seafood treats if you haven't tried those yet. Whole Life is another brand you can try. Whole Life also makes a food topper called Easy Additions.

My cats love Salmon Paws Kitty Bits.

Freeze dried raw is also great. Stella and Chewy's has some really stinky seafood freeze dried raw.

I posted some other suggestions here:

Have had success with:

crumbled FD primal

Ground up or plain Kittles (tuna/salmon flavors)

Orijen Treats / Smittens crumbled or plain

NVI raw boost mixers (this gave our kittens tummy problems, so had to stop, seems too high in fiber? 15%)

Will probably try fortiflora soon.

Whole Life FD turkey is a fav with our two cats.

In the past I've had luck with Orijen FD raw and Bravo FD raw raw treats. Occasionally I will use Bravo's dry roasted turkey breast strips (for dogs), crumbled on top, they love that as well.

I stopped using Pure Bites, for some reason every bag I bought had a rancid smell, the cats weren't thrilled with them anyway.

Recently I picked up Vital Essentials FD beef tripe (also for dogs but fine for cats) they go bonkers for this, the treats don't crumble but even if I put two or three on top of their food they eat the food right up. Plus beef tripe is rich in digestive enzymes and Omega 3. :)

I think so - too high in fiber, I used to use them occasionally but I prefer to stick with FD treats that are very limited ingredient - the meat only.  Lately I'm even avoiding treats with liver.

I've tried 4 different flavors of Purebites - none of them worked.

Thanks so much everyone - these are great suggestions! Can't wait to try them!

I was having a hard time this evening with my Molly (IBD) not eating her food. I literally had four plates out with four different foods we've been rotating, nothing, nada - she wouldn't touch anything without the usual toppers that I was out of (Whole Life turkey).

Sick as dog with the flu, I had to run out and get something - I picked up Bravo's dry roasted turkey strips (for dogs), it's just turkey breast, you can break it and crumble it on top of the food.

I removed all the plates and started with fresh food along with the turkey breast, worked like a charm, she licked her plate clean. :)

I'm glad to hear that. I tried 2 new toppers in addition to the others I've tried & so far nothing. I couldn't find the Bravo dog treats anywhere by me, so I'll order them online now. Fingers crossed & thanks!

Plain roasted, baked or poached chicken is good. I roast a bone in, skin on chicken breast or thigh and shred it while it's still warm. I put some of that on their food and add some of the natural juices and fat to act like a sauce. They love it. I buy a big pack and portion the pieces out into small freezer bags so I can just use one at a time.

I hope it works for you. I realize it's hit or miss as far as what is tasty to one cat and not another. Have you tried the Whole Life FD treats? Or also any freeze dried liver sometimes works, you just need a pinch on top of the food.

Just out of curiosity, why aren't they eating their food?  What are the different kinds of wet food you're trying to get them to eat?  Do they just not like wet food but like dry, or do you have them on a special diet?

In my case, I have two cats who have allergies, one with severe IBD and possibly beginning CKD.

Our canned food choices are limited as far as proteins, plus I require foods that are carrageenan, guar gum free, low carb and not excessively high in phosphorus.  While the cats may eat a new food heartily w/o toppers, they soon tire of it after awhile, hence the use of toppers.

They are both fussy eaters. For e.g., I would love it if both would eat NV's LID canned rabbit on rotation but only the male will eat it with toppers, the other won't eat it with any kind of toppers.

So the use of toppers mainly is to get the cats to eat the foods that are better for them, per my requirements.

I see- that makes sense.  I didn't even know they made toppers- what a great idea.  We have nine cats, and are pretty blessed that none of them are picky...

You certainly are. I can't tell you how many cans of food ended up going down the disposal because the diva sisters refused to eat them.
