My 1 year old tortoiseshell girl stated throwing up for several hours yesterday. It wasn't a scarf and barf situation. She has since stopped vomiting  and is back to her normal self however she is still refusing food. How long is typical for a cat to refuse food after being sick?

Thank you!

I think a more important question (and one that can help you with yours) is WHY was she vomiting?  Hours of vomiting isn't a good thing.  It could indicate poisoning or something else.  Given that she is now not eating (the next day?) i would be very concerned and i know tomorrow is a sunday but IMO she needs a vet.

What did she throw up?

Did it change over time? Like from food to bile to dry heaves?

How long has she been been refusing food?

Is she drinking water? What did the vomit look like? What has she been eating?

Some cats will immediately eat their vomit after they barfed it up, some cats will wait awhile before wanting to eat again. I think a day is getting to be a little long of a wait. Try offering your cat something super tasty to see if you can coax her to eat something. Wet food or meat baby food (without onion and garlic) are usually a good bet.

At first it was cat food and then just mucus, I have seen her drinking some water throughout the day.

Thank you for all your replies, I'm just going to take her to the vet first thing in the morning! I don't want to take any chances!
