Ugh.  I cannot believe this, buy my former feral is throwing up again.  He was diagnosed with giardia and lung worms, took a de-wormer for 3 days.  And was much better for two weeks.  He has now begun throwing up again--and he has been strictly indoors with no other cats except the kitten, who does not have worms and has been de-wormed 3 times.  I have a vet appointment for tomorrow, and have NO idea how I'm going to get him in a crate.  But I'm being like Scarlett O'Hara, and I'll just worry about that tomorrow.  My question is, is it possible the de-wormer did not kill all the worms, and they came back??  I am so sad about this.  The poor guy can not make any progress with his shyness b/c he gets so sick and when he is sick, his instinct is to hide...which he is doing right now.

Yes, meds have to be repeated for the newly hatching eggs/larvae, your vet should have known this though, must have repeated doses to get rid of them completely.

Glad you have an appt for him.

Okay, Catwoman707, that makes sense now.  My vet has bungled this poor guy's case since day one.  I am now using another vet.  Thank you.

Hi my ferals that I am socializing had worms too and one cat also had giardia they had gotten revolution at the first vet appointment. I took them to one vet who deals with rescue and ferals he cared for them and had told us revolution would do the trick alone but my personal vet did not agree and they both got deworming meds which I put in their food & it knocked out both the worms and giardia. The cat with the giardia had to be treated twice but the meds worked and they are doing great! I hope your cat gets better soon!

One more question about worms...because this former feral has lung worms and giardia, I was given Panacur for him.  Five doses.  He took the first dose, now he will not take the second.  I feel terrible about this, but I cannot give him any other food all day, to ensure he will eat the wet food/Gerber Chicken food mixed with the Panacur.  My question is, he has not touched his food/medicine all day.  He has to eat it, right?  I mean, he'll get hungry enough...won't he?  Otherwise, I have no idea what to do for this guy.

No, he will refuse no matter how hungry really, the food will get old sitting there waiting on him too, then it will be even more offensive to him :(

That's the diff between pills and liquid oral meds. If you are unable to scruff and give the meds, it's a real problem as most are not masked in food, even tuna water.

Pills are tough, pill pocket pieces have worked for my tough cases.

Temptation treats too.

I would have to divide the pill in several small pieces, create little balls out of the pockets, some pushing a piece of pill in and some not, but all the same very small size is needed, cats are smart!

Then put these in with baby food, warm up a bit and they go down just like a spoon of sugar :)

The smaller the better so they won't chew and be found out!

I found that you can order chicken ( I think other flavors too) flavored capsules to put the pills into.  I cut the pill in 1/2 or 1/4s and put it into the capsule.  The capsule is small.  I then bury it into the wet food.  It has worked really well.  Here is where I have ordered them http://www.capsuledepot.com/flavored-gelatin-capsules-1/  I get size 3

Thank you for that idea..unfortunately the medicine is a powder you put over his food.  After I read Catwoman707's post, I got the idea to put some tuna and tuna juice on his food with the medicine on it.  That worked today...but tomorrow may be a different story.  This guy is very picky considering the fact that my vet said he must have been eating earthworms to contract lung worm.  I would think ferals would never be picky eaters!

Have you tried mashing the powder in a little bit of liverwurst? That often works when all else fails. Some cats prefer pork liverwurst, while others like veal or poultry.
