Hey everyone,

Mew is getting low on Orijen dry food which he absolutely loves! I heard Orijen Chicken is the number one best dry food available. But what is number 2? I always buy the Orijen from Zooplus since it's the only place I can find it here in the Netherlands. The problem is, they are sold out of Orijen Chicken and they don't get it back until the 17th of this month. I'm not sure if Mew has enough dry food to last that long :( Does anyone have any good suggestions of high quality dry food? They do have Orijen Fish, but I'm not sure if I should get it because a lot of people say too much fish in a male cat's diet isn't good. I've looked at other foods in Zooplus, and Applaws, Arcana, and Purrizon all look high quality. Applaws has 80% meat and 20% veggie. Both Arcana and Purrizon have 70% meat and 30% veggie. But I'm not sure about the other ingredients.

Choices I'm thinking about:

Orijen Fish

Applaws has tons of flavor, Chicken, Chicken and Salmon, Lam, Chicken and Duck.

Purrizon has Chicken and fish, Fish, Lamb and fish

Arcana has Grasslands, Pacifica, and Wild Prairie

Please let me know which brand you think is best and which flavor I should go for or if you have any other suggestions on different brands/flavors :) I really appreciate the help since I'm really confused!

Acana is made by the same parent company, it has a slightly less protein but I have heard only good things about it

I think that Acana Wild Prairie Cat Food is the closest to the Orijen chicken.

Awesome :D! Mew is totally addicted to the Orijen Chicken, so I'm terrified to try anything else since he's such a picky eater. He's actually tried Purizon Chicken and Fish and Applaws Chicken and Salmon. He enjoyed both, but he's never tried Acana. I wonder if Acana really is better than Purrizon and Applaws. I still haven't gotten reading the labels down, but maybe the ingredients in Acana are better than the other two? I'm not sure.

Purizon is a great option imo. Are you able to get a brand called AATU over there? Amazon UK have it, so it might be available. It comes in Chicken or Duck flavours. My girl loves it. I flip between AATU and Purizon myself.

The reason I rate Purizon over the other two is that it looks like ALL the protein is animal based. Also, 4% dried potato won't be very different from 18% fresh potato. They contain a fair bit of water ;)

I think your best bet is either Acana, or the Orijen fish. If you did the Orijen fish i would just buy the smallest bag you can. Acana is just as good as Orijen just lower in protein thus slightly cheaper.

That's great to hear Purizon is great :D Do you know if Purizon or Acana is better? I don't see AATU on zooplus unfortunately and I've never seen it in stores here :( That's great all the protein is animal based :D I'm glad to hear theres not a huge difference between the potato's. ha ha. Mew actually tried Purizon before and he does love it :)

Yeah I noticed Acana has less protein than Orijen :) I'm happy to hear it's good! Seems like Acana and Purizon are really good.

I prefer Purizon myself, simply because it's made in the UK. Nothing at all wrong with Canadian (I think!) foods, but the price tends to shoot up as a result of all those air miles

I know - it really sucks that they don't do bigger sizes :( It's too expensive to use all the time (for me, anyway), but it's a great standby if I can't get hold of other options - and Asha does LOVE it :yummy: Purizon is much more affordable and still a great choice.

Hey everyone!

Thanks for the help :) I decided to try a small bag of Acana but unfortunately Mew doesn't like it as much. I hope his Orijen comes back in stock soon!

Our girls both love Orijen but have also eaten Ziwipeak Lamb (expensive), and nature's variety ultimate protein chicken reliably.

Acana is repackaging their products.

Wild Prairie will become Meadowlands

Acana Wild Prairie - 5 lb. bag 500 kcal / cup., 70% animal protein.

Acana Meadowlands- 4 lb bag 460 kcal / cup, 75% animal protein

So, we're getting less product, with a slightly higher animal protein profile.

I highly dobut we'll see a conrresponding price decrease, but we'll find out in Spring/Summer 2016.

What a disappointment.
