After 5-6 mo old Lucky came to us, formerly a feral colony cat with stealth as his game, he finally began to come out and socialize (on his terms, of course). One day, my husband fixed a salami sandwich on a bun; then left it on an end table long enough to go back to kitchen to get a can of pop. All seemed normal when he came back but upon the first bite he discovered the salami was missing! Somehow, Lucky had snatched it away and run off with it without disturbing the bun. Hubby never even found the remains.

LOL, sorry, the mental image of that whole scenario just had me cracking up. Probably because I've had it happen (with dogs and cats) many times. I have never quite mastered the art of keeping cats from doing that, aside from keeping an eye on my food at all times. It's a little easier with dogs, since they can't jump up on things. Probably doesn't help that the cats pretty much own the counters....

Sara went after the turkey for the 30 seconds my mom had her back to it the other day. We had to tag-team after that.

That's funny! We can't get up from the table and turn our backs to get something out of the fridge without Mogli stealing something. Hubby has to sit down and "guard" the food as I'm trying to get dinner on the table, too. Sometimes it gets to be too much and he gets locked in the living room so we can eat in peace.

This is great timing! I was just telling my sister earlier today that Robin never steals food, what an angel blah blah. Ha!!

Well, he must have heard me and decided to set his street cred in order, because I had set a slice of pizza in the box, on my ottoman. Read:his ottoman. Was watching tv, heard something fall, went over to look. Robin had charged at the box. I think they call it the belly flop. The last piece of pizza was on the floor, and he was enjoying a nice little piece of....mushroom. [emoji]128527[/emoji] He had sauce all over his belly and paws. The little [emoji]128169[/emoji].

:lol3: Pizza is irresistible! We used to say our last cat was doing his "kamikaze cat routine" when he'd swoop down and snatch a piece of pizza from a plate. He generally didn't steal people food, but pizza, especially with hot peppers(!!!), was just too good to pass up.

The funny thing about Lucky, he used to steal stuff right in front of us, right off our plates! The very last time he did it (I remember it so clearly too), I was eating a salad with chicken - Lucky LOVED chicken and turkey - he slowly crawled into my lap, like he always did. Thought he was just gonna curl up. Then I watched as his head dipped into the bowl, lifted it out with a piece of chicken in his mouth, then ran off it eat it.

I know some people would be horrified to know we let our cats just take food off our plates. I shouldn't say we LET him, he just did it, but I wasn't going to ask for it back! He mainly did that with chicken - he just loved it that much. Sara would do it with all sorts of things, some of which she ate, most she'd sniff and we'd find it later. Sigh.

I have one that takes my husbands glasses. I had to buy multiple glass cases and put them around the house so his glasses are always protected. He also steals the tooth paste tube out of the holder in the bathroom and runs like he has caught prey.

it's just hilarious. one of mine does that too.

especially, he likes hair bands and round oranges.

I always thought that citrus is the mortal enemy to cats, but obviously, not to mine :)

your cat sounds so adorable :)

Omg, that reminds me of when I first got my exercise bands. I would come home and find them in various places in the house, eventually caught Lucky in the act of dragging them around. He didn't chew them or anything - just liked to drag them around!

I hide hair bands in a closed cupboard. I have a girl who eats anything. The house is more baby proofed then when we had kids home!

If I have to leave the table to answer the phone or the door, or go back to the fridge for a beverage or condiment, I literally take the food off the table and put it on a shelf Bud can't reach.

Bud has also stolen cold cuts from sandwiches, as well as a burger (once), pistachio nuts, wasabi peas, chorizo, and he likes to steal anything leafy-looking to play with, not to eat. He's also tried to get into Chinese food delivery cartons and pizza boxes. Arguably just as bad, he likes to poke his face into wine glasses and regular beverages, and sometimes will lick the rim of the glass. Bud is super social and is always in the middle of things demanding attention when I have guests, so I have to warn people to "guard" their drinks.

The pistachios were the worst, in terms of the consequences. I've never heard Bud scream the way he did when he was a kitten and those pistachios were working their way out of his system. I didn't even realize what had happened until I was cleaning his litterbox. Needless to say I've been more careful about leaving things out since then.
