Seems my older male (6-8 years) has a UTI. Classic signs, peeing outside litter box, straining to pee for awhile in the litter box with little coming out, and I noticed when he would sit in his bed some pee would dribble out while sitting there.

I did a search online and found out about ACV and how well it helps with UTI, so I started him on it last night. He is active and isn't really acting funny other than the issues with urinating.

My question is on the dosage, so many sites have varying dosages to give him, so I was wondering what the same emergency doasge wold be to help get him back on the right track before switching to a maintenance dosage? Can you give them too much ACV as well?

thanks

I've heard other people say they give their cats ACV, and I just don't get it.  Have you tried drinking it yourself?  I, personally, LOVE pickles, and so figured I wouldn't have any trouble drinking diluted ACV, but when I tried it, there was NO WAY I could get it down, and, really, I am NOT a wimp when it comes to downing stuff that's not really tasty.  But there really was just no way I could get it down
.  So...I don't see how it's possible to get a cat to drink the stuff.

In answer to your question, I do NOT know how much you should give, and YES, I would certainly think you could give too much and end up messing with the PH balance of the urine. I don't know what this might do, but I suspect it could then result in the formation of crystals.  Don't quote me on that though.  Did you find anything on that in your research?

Is there some reason you do not want to take your little one to the Vet?  These issues are not something to take lightly, particularly if they turn into a blockage, which then can.  And they can be painful, just like with us humans.  AND, they are not always from infections,so the treatment varies.

This is the one issue that I'm constantly on the lookout for, and one that I will even take my guys to the emergency vet for....the moment I see them squatting anyplace but the litter box has me hauling out the carrier.  Luckily it's only happened twice in my entire "cat mom" lifetime.  (hope I didn't just jinx myself)
