Petco to stop carrying Iams and Purina One canned cat foods

Did anyone else get an email today from Petco about this? The email I got states:

"Iams and Purina One canned cat food will be discontinued at Petco. We want to help you find an alternative your cat will love such as Soulistic"

They included a printable coupon to be used in store for buy 2 get 1 free Soulistic. It's fine with me. None of my kids like those brands and all three love Soulistic Good Karma and Harvest Sunrise but I thought I'd give a heads up because some people here do feed those brands. You might not get the email if you aren't a PALS member.

I went into Petco last night to use my buy 2 get a free Soulistic coupon and a couple others. I met the manager over by the Soulistic display and (of course) they were out of Good Karma and almost out of Harvest Sunrise (they almost always are because those are the 2 most popular kinds). He went in the back and found more GK. I cleaned them out of both. I had to get the 3 oz cans as that was all they had.

Anyway, I asked him about them getting rid of Iams and Purina One and he said that they were going to add another line from Iams ( I assume it's more expensive) and they are trying to push people towards Purina Pro Plan. I found that odd since the email that Petco sent me was pushing towards Soulistic ( now that makes sense since it is their house brand).

So if your cats are Iams or Purina One fans, I'd take a run into Petco to see if they are going to put them on clearance and stock up if they do.

I did pretty well last night. I got 27 3 ounce cans of Soulistic, 6 5.5 ounce cans of Merrick LID pates (3 chicken and 3 turkey) and 3 5.5 ounce cans of Merrick duck pate - 36 cans in all for $27 and some change including tax.

I hope they carry Iams purrfect Delicasies, my cats like it! Slow roasted turkey & liver is their favorite! It is chunks in gravy!

They only had the regular duck pate or I would have gotten it. My Petco isn't great about keeping things in stock. They very rarely have a good stock on Good Karma and Harvest Sunrise despite the fact that they fly out of the store. I even told the manager that they should get rid of the ones that don't sell and double what they carry of GK and HS. All he said was , "yeah, we sell a lot of those." Yeah. I know. I JUST SAID THAT. The ones in gelee never move. Get rid of them. SMH.

Do your cats like the lid as much as regular pate? I bought duck and chicken lid today. I tried Soulistic again Miss Fussy won't eat it again, i bought yellow can with pumpkin, she would not eat it with Purebites on top either, I gave it to feral. She will eat tiki but not Soulistic. I thought I would try some Friskies, which flavor do your cats like best?

I actually use the Soulistic as a topper to the Merrick LID pates. They like that a lot. It's even better if I add some pure bites on top of that.

They like the Friskies pates a lot and their favorites are the Poultry Platter, Turkey and Giblets, Supreme Supper and the turkey & chicken with cheese. Every now and then I get the salmon one.

Will they eat Soulistic or Merrick lid by itself? My cats eat regular Merrick pates plain with no toppers.

Yes they will. I like to mix it up sometimes so they can get different textures in the same meal but they do eat both by themselves

My female goes on hunger strike when I give her harvest sunrise so it goes to my boy or Titch the feral girl. She will eat tiki though, go figure, cats!! I believe she likes Merrick best and after they transition over to LID pates, she probably won't like it either [emoji]128062[/emoji][emoji]10084[/emoji]️[emoji]128514[/emoji]

I know this thread is a little old, but I just noticed this at my closest Petco. I live in Texas. I didn't get an email announcing it and I was just in that store a couple weeks ago and Iams and Purina One were still on the shelves. I went in Friday and all the cat food aisles had been rearranged. I was looking for Merrick LID, but Canidae was where it used to be next to Halo and the Halo section was half what it used to be. Merrick was moved the far end of that aisle and the end cap. I didn't pay much attention to where Purina One was, if it was still there, my cats don't really like it, but the store still had Friskies and Fancy Feast. Iams used to be next to them. And I was also looking for Iams Purrfect Delights because one cat has sort of gone off Merrick LID lately was preferring Iams Purrfect Delights. (He has CKD and won't eat any k/d food so I do my best to get him to eat anything and what he wants often changes.) I finally saw Iams dry food on an end cap in the very back of the cat food aisles.

I ended up going to the Petsmart a mile away even though I don't like shopping there as much. Petsmart doesn't seem really have any brands that Petco doesn't. Petco actually carries a lot more brands that Petsmart doesn't and Petsmart's prices are always at least $0.10 cents more per can. But they had a ton of Iams Purrfect Delights and and the regular line and dry. So I don't understand why Petco pulled all the Iams canned cat food, but not the dry food. If it's because it's "bad" for cats, so is Fancy Feast, which they still have half an aisle dedicated to. They only have the Iams dry food listed on their website now. They don't carry the newer grain free Naturals line of Iams dry. I did a google search and found this thread, but no hits for anything with an explanation for the removal.
