Please help, my cat has eaten quite a bit of polyester mesh fabric from a child's Halloween costume (as shown in picture). I am sure he's swallowed it as I couldn't find any pieces of fabric on the floor :( I phoned the vet at 6 hours ago just as they were closing, and they told me to keep an eye out for at symptoms and check if he brings it back up or passes in his stool, but call vet if concerned. Does anybody have any experience of something like this? I don't think il be sleeping tonight... At what point should I contact the emergency vet? (It's now 10.30 on a Saturday night). Any advice would be appreciated :(

I feel for you. I'm not sure when. It doesn't look like the vet was much concerned about which is good. Do you have hairball remedy to help him pass it? It's light material at least.

Is there any chance he could have torn the pieces off and hid them somewhere?  I have a cat that chews and tears up shoes laces but he has never tried to eat them.  I have found pieces of shoe laces hidden in and under my furniture.   If he starts throwing up but the fabric is not coming up or if he seems to be struggling to go to the bathroom then I would consider at least calling an emergency vet.  Hopefully someone who has more experience with this issue can provide some more advice.

My kitten Buster did this when he was only 4 months old.....Is your kitty eating normally?  And pooping?  I had to go through and pick through his poop, when he finally pooped, looking for bits of the shiny foil toy that he ate, I got worried when it didn't look like it all came out so I took him in for xrays just to be sure.
Watch for inappetance, and vomiting, looking uncomfortable or straining at the litterbox.

Thank you for your advice everybody, he is still eating/drinking/pooping as normal so far. There is no netting in the poop (just had the lovely job of sifting through it!) and he hasn't been sick yet at all. He's behaving normally but it has only been 15 hours so I don't think we're out of the danger zone yet. I think he has definitely swallowed it as he has a habit of chewing random items :( I will keep everyone posted... Any more words of wisdom would be much appreciated
