Hi all, hoping that someone might be able to offer some advice or tips on Treena's health.
Treena is an indoors 10 year old Oriental. About two months ago, we noticed a VERY slight limp on her front let paw, which seemed to be at its worst when she got up from a long rest. It was stable for about a month, but then quickly developed into a pronounced limp (which has also stabilised over the past month).
It also seems much more pronounced at certain speeds/gaits, namely a medium paced walk and a slow run...when she slinks, walks very slowly, runs, gallops, etc, it is hardly noticable.
It doesn't seem to be painful to the touch, and it doesn't keep her from tearing around the house like a mad cat either. She runs, jumps, climbs, messes about with her brothers, etc. fine, and it doesn't seem to bother her, the only symptom is a limping gait.
We have been to the vet numerous times, two sets of x-rays, and blood tests, and pretty much what we have gotten is shrugged shoulders. They suggested she MAY have spondylosis, which sometimes impinges upon a nerve, but they couldn't tell (which was weird, considering they had x-rays of her neck and spine). They apparently looked for signs of arthritis, but could only find a slight thickening of her shoulder bone in the OTHER shoulder, not the limpy one. It was so slight, they weren't even sure it was there. They have done several physical inspections, as have we, and can’t find any signs of injury, distress or discomfort anywhere on her paws, legs or shoulders.The next suggestion is an MRI (about $1k) or acupuncture.
If I felt that the MRI was likely to clearly identify the problem and solution, I wouldn't hesitate, but given my experiences (and expenses) so far, I can't help but feel this is just a way to extract more money, and result in more shrugged shoulders. As for the acupuncture, I would much rather try and treat the injury/issue, as I fear that if she starts feeling better (but isn't) she is more likely to do something silly and worsen the injury. For the same reason, I am not giving her (vet prescribed) painkillers.
She is on oral steroids for asthma in any case, which helps keep any inflammation down as well.
Any thoughts or advice on how to fix our Treena? Any similar experiences?
