Yesterday i opened a package from amazon, items i'd ordered. nothing particularly expensive, just items i've been needing. in the package there was the museum putty (for affixing the speakers for the computer to the desktop), the wire loom (which came with a kind of cord threader tool, that inserts the cord into the wire loom tube as you slide it along -- i love tools and gadgets, another surge protector power strip with 12 ft cord, and a rubbermaid tub mat. and i then put those items into use, with the exception of the surge protector power strip (which i bought in case i find i'll need it when the new computer cpu finally arrives).

today i (finally) got the new computer cpu ordered. lots of twists and turns in the process of my new computer system purchase.

on a completely different topic -- i've noticed this past spring and summer, that it's been unusually eventful for me. things coming up that need dealing with (which is normal for pretty much everyone), but way more things seem to be coming up than i would consider normal and some seem to me to be in the category of just plain bizarre. and it's not just me that has noticed this 'trend' in their life. many people i know (different people and living situation/lives, and living in different states) have felt 'slammed' in this same way lately. i've even mentioned the possibility (half joking) that the planets are out of alignment, or that there's something in the water (supply, that is throwing some people 'off' in the way they're behaving). it seems to be a strange time lately.

so with these things on my mind -- for today's Question of the Day, i'll be asking two question that are completely unrelated --

Of your recent or in the not-too-distant past purchases, is there any item(s) that you found to be really great (or in the category of 'greatest thing since sliced bread')?

And, just out of my own curiosity -- Have you noticed any unusual increase in things that need dealing with in your life, and/or noticed any unusual/strange (even bizarre) behavior from people you either know or just casually come in contact with (for example -- a bank teller, or someone who just happened to 'cross your path')?

i'll start!

i'd have to say that my new tub mat is, for me, in the category of the 'greatest thing since sliced bread'. my feet had been really painful after standing in the tub-shower taking a shower. i'd been putting off the tub mat purchase for a while, but after a recent experience where my feet were particularly painful after taking a shower i decided to go ahead and include the tub mat in my amazon order. i bought an extra large rubbermaid tub mat, and it covers the bottom of my tub almost completely. last night in the shower and after finishing it, i felt absolutely no pain in my feet. feet were doing a happy dance --
i read online that the tub mat can be washed with some bleach in the washing machine every so often, to prevent mold/mildew from developing on it. i also am making sure to not leave it in the tub after showering, and place it suction cup bottom upward over the edge of the tub -- so no water gets trapped underneath it, which i would think might help prevent mold/mildew from developing.

as i'd mentioned, it seems to be an unusually eventful time for me lately. i just get finished dealing with one thing, and something else comes up. or, i'm in the process of dealing with something and complications just 'keep coming'. then there's the unusual/strange and even sometimes bizarre behavior i've come across much more often in the last several months. i'll give a few examples. i had a bank teller (at my bank) be openly rude to me, and within ear-shot of her manager, about a month ago. i stood there amazed and watched as the manager swooped in and distracted the teller, i assume to prevent further rudeness towards me. the teller had no idea that she'd done anything wrong. and i believe that this year my next door neighbor has 'slipped a gear' or 'blown a gasket', she's become just plain aggressively mean this year. i do think it's a 'strange time' lately.

okay, now it's your turn!

Part 1 - Found some wonderful healthy frozen dinners by KASHI in the health food freezer area of Kroger, on sale for $3.29 each, 300 calories, 31 gm. net carbs, and ready in the microwave in about 6 minutes.  Lemongrass Coconut Chicken -- And it tastes WONDERFUL!

Part 1(a) - I too have a nice cushy tub mat mainly to prevent the "slip & fall" that often happens to people in my age bracket.  It survived for awhile but after a couple of times I forgot to pick it up, and also forgot to shut the bathroom door and one or more of my feline housemates thought it would be good to pee on -- by the time I discovered it (by the smell) even washing in the washing machine with a little bleach didn't quite do it.  However, it wasn't expensive so I got another recently because I felt very vulnerable without it.

Part 2 - Whether or not you are a believer in the influence of astrology, there is a lot of evidence for it.  It's rather like a weather report -- it can tell you if it's likely to rain, but it cannot tell you if you will get wet.  Some things are up to us, but we can't change the weather. It's been doing quite a bit of astrological "raining" lately, the most recent being the latest Mercury Retrograde, a well known phenomenon that happens about 3 times a year and seems to affect everyone and has been busting our chops recently.

Greatest thing in past weeks was the purchase of an over sized utensil crock for the kitchen.  I mean, this thing is enormous.  My old one was way too small at this point - I have a ton of cooking things and it made me nuts that my BF was always shoving them into unknown drawers.  Made cooking difficult when I'd go and grab something and it wasn't right by the stove, and couldn't find it.  Got it at Williams Sonoma and was about $30 give or take.  I thought I would have to pay way more to get one that was adequate so I'm thrilled!

As for people/events - nothing out of the ordinary. What is normal anyway?  I work in NYC so I run across odd and unusual behaviors on a daily basis

The greatest thing has to be our sweet little dishwasher that plays little tunes when it's finished. I've never had a dishwasher so I love that thing!

There have been more crabby people around here the last few years. Evidently Canadians are in deep debt, spending $1.60+ for every $1.00 earned, and you can really tell. There has been a jump in crimes, too, theft and robberies as well as business fires (maybe for the insurance).

I have a variety of large pitchers that I use for cooking/baking utensils and such. I can throw all my whisks, wooden spoons, spatulas, etc in it. And then I can change the pitchers out as I like. When we redid the kitchen, I decided to find space in a drawer for those utensils and it makes me crazy that I've done so. I put the stuff in a drawer to try to cut down on clutter on the kitchen counters. But the best thing when I'm cooking is to grab what I need. Now, I have to walk over to the drawer, open, and root around a bit til I find what I'm looking for. I keep thinking I'm going to get a pitcher back out and throw my stuff back in it again. So much easier, even if it does add to the clutter.

So far, the greatest things we bought this year were the ACDC concert tickets. A truly spectacular concert. I'd go see them again in a heartbeat.

Nothing really weird with people as far as I can tell.

i've had a sample for a kashi brand frozen meal before, and it surprised me that it tasted quite good. nice that you found them on sale!

yes, there's the risk of a slip & fall in a tub-shower too.

i tend to believe in possibilities, and try to keep an open mind. i do believe that there is much more to life, the universe, and even death/afterlife than we're able to understand or even conceive of potentially. and, in my years of working the overnight shift at hotels, i've seen way too much evidence of people reacting with varying 'craziness' when the moon is full to discount the effect a full moon can potentially have on some people. so while i can't say i'm a believer in the influence of astrology, i also won't say that i don't believe in the possibility. thank you for the link to the article, that was an interesting read!

i think we're having more crabby people here in the US too, due to the rough economy.

It really was a great concert!

As for Hannah, well, it's kind of a sore subject right now. We were scheduled to start work on the car yesterday (Mon, Sept 21) and she was to be in the garage all week as they thought it would take all week for repairs. Well, last Thursday morning, the garage called; they forgot to order the parts
. And since it takes a week for the parts to come in, could I reschedule for the week of Sept 28th? Well, OK. So she is now to go in next Monday. The garage assured me that she would be ready in time for our trip to Pittsburgh for the concert. And if she's not ready, we'll just take the truck instead. Our insurance policy specifies all new parts, no junk parts (but really, once the parts are on the car and she's all fixed, how would I know??).

Yesterday I got a phone call from our insurance company. They have no record of me keeping the Sept 8 appt with the claims adjuster. I told her I was there, that I had even left work 15 minutes early so that I could keep the appt. And that I had the dated paperwork to prove it. They said the garage called them yesterday morning and said that I was to have taken Hannah in for repairs, but I never showed. Huh? I explained that somebody forgot to order the parts, so they re-scheduled the repair. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. So I got home from work, called the garage and basically said "WTHeck is going on?" They had no idea. The insurance company had called them to say that whatever they had uploaded (the claims amount, the pictures, etc) was not viewable by the insurance rep. The garage re-uploaded the info and everything is now fine. Why the rep called me I've no idea. Nor does the garage. The parts have been ordered and they will call me when the parts come in....just so I know where things stand.

The good news is that our insurance company has waived our deductible and they've assured us that our premiums will not be increased due to the accident. It was not our fault and they evidently got the police report from Ottawa. So we're good there.

And meanwhile, I am driving Clarence around town.
Rick refuses to drive him to Pittsburgh; he's afraid Clarence can't go that far. I keep telling Rick that he doesn't give The Boy enough credit.

Thanks for asking....I thought I had posted something.

Regardless, Dear Richard will be driving in and around Pittsburgh. I refuse.

oh, my! reading about all the twists and turns in your hannah's repair, i can understand why it's kind of a sore subject right now. i'll hope that everything with hannah's repair moves along smoothly from now on.

True and I bought a slow cooker having no idea how to use it.
for me, it helps to have a recipe that i can follow. slow cooker recipes generally will say in them how long to cook and at what slow cooker temp.

you know,   @happybird posted a roast chicken recipe for the slow cooker recently. though i haven't tried it yet, i do plan on making it coming up relatively soon. here's her post with the recipe -- http://www.thecatsite.com/t/305794/question-of-the-day-friday-september-11#post_3833882

An answer to the first part... I just bought a Yoghurt Maker and a really good 'starter' it makes the best yoghurt I've ever eaten!

Years ago I made it the old fashioned way and I never quite got it, so I gave up.  Now it could be an addiction.
