Sorry this is so long, please don’t stop reading this , it is very important to me as it would be to you about your loved one!

A little bit of history on Bella my 10 year old Maine Coon mix. Bella has been on a diet since January, she was 22lbs. By June she had only lost 1 lb so her food was cut back a little more but brand and even flavor stayed the same. She is separated from the other two cats because they were beating up on her to the point where she wouldn’t even go downstairs to use the litter box for fear of being jumped on the steps and started having accidents. I took Bella to the vet originally for a scooting (we call it drag racing hehe) and it was found her anal glands were full. This happened again in June and that’s when we went back to the vet.

About a month ago I was wiping her rear end with an unscented baby wipe, because she is unable to properly groom herself due to her weight. To my surprise there was blood on the wipe, I did not notice anything in the stool. Working in a doctors office is helpful as I was able to bring home some stool cards with developer and test her stools the next few days. There was one day that was pos for blood and then it cleared up so I did not think much of it.

Tuesday morning I woke up to get ready for work to walk into my bathroom (where her litter box is) to what I thought was a murder scene! I have pics if that is helpful to see what’s going on but I am new to this site and I did not know if that was inappropriate.. It’s pretty gross. I would say it was more blood than fecal matter! I put it in a sterile cup and took it to the vet immediately. They looked for parasite and said she was clear of those and sent a diarrheal panel out. I began to soak her food in warm water to soften it up for her. The results came back and she is also negative for any viral or bacterial issues, and negative for mega colon. Good news right? I don’t know! I still have a mystery as to why this is happening.  I have switched her to only canned food for sensitive stomachs and started giving 2oz of raw goat milk as the pet store did not have any powder probiotics. She has not had a repeat of Tuesday but blood is still noticeable in her stool, the vet told me to continue this through the weekend and see if it clears up. Does anyone have any other advice? I really hope this is just a stress colitis or something and not more serious like cancer.. She is acting completely normal, drinking, eating, and having a bm after dinner or early morning, shes pretty regular like that. She does strain to poop.. she will squat to urinate but basically stands normal while pooping and makes a squeaky sound but she has done that a long time now and I was told it was probably due to her weight. Again sorry so long! Thank you to those of you who take the time to read it and in advance for any advice!!!

Sounds like she is constipated and maybe needs help in that department. My brother was just in the hospital with a similar story. Not sure if this is relevant since he's a human but he had an ulceration in his colon and the official diagnosis was colitis. He was put on antibiotics. Your baby is probably really irritated down there. What's the vet saying?

the vet did not start any antibiotics, he did start her on sucralfate to coat her stomach and intestines and to clear the diarrhea, which was only the one day. He told me to try the canned food through the weekend and see if the blood clears up. She is going once a day, should she be going more often than that? Her stools are not hard either.

If she's eating just canned food you will notice that she won't go as much so that's normal. I guess cats like humans get colitis.

I just started her on the canned food yesterday. Before this she was getting 1/8 cup of dry food 4-5 times a day. If she is still having blood she will be going to the vet on Monday!
