Hi everyone. I imagine there's a lot of vomiting-related threads on here, so I'm sorry for yet another one. I'm not expecting a solution, just wanted to hear some opinions.

I have a six-month old grey tabby. Super sweet guy and super chill. Unfortunately ever since we've had him, he's had problems with diarrhea and vomiting.

We started him off on wet food (we tried a variety of brands like Wellness, Blue Buffalo, and a few others), but he always had runny stools and diarrhea. We then switched to raw, and he did great on that.

For the convenience of it, we tried to see if he would be okay with high quality dry food, so we literally mixed in six tiny pieces with his raw food. Next thing we know, he's having really bad diarrhea. We switched back to completely raw, and he improved a few days later. We tried to give him some raw turkey, and again he started having bad diarrhea with a lot of vomiting.

It's hard to recall all of his episodes of bad vomiting. We've had him since March 2015, and it feels like at least once a month he experiences vomiting that lasts at least a day. There's been at least a few nights where my fiancé and I have had to take turns multiple times waking up to clean the vomit. But there are also several weeks that go by when he seems completely normal and fine.

On Monday evening, he again started vomiting. We've been completely feeding him raw for quite a while, so there's been no changes in his diet. Since Monday, he's had very little to eat and has overall vomited 10-12 times. This morning he had a tiny bit of food, but threw up clear liquid 10-15 min later.

I finally took him to the vet because this is the most he has ever vomited in such a short period of time. His energy levels aren't too different, although it's hard to tell because he's generally a pretty mellow kitty. The vet first did a physical exam and said he felt normal. We didn't notice any discomfort during the exam. The vet did a blood test and urinalysis and apparently all of those came out normal. But he hasn't ate anything the entire time he's been there. His fecal samples are also normal.

The next possible step is x-rays. I guess my first question is would it be worth it?? I have already spent nearly $400 today for his day-stay at the vet and the blood work. For some reason I am doubtful that an x-ray would reveal anything.

I am more concerned of the possibility of him having IBD. Would it be premature to ask for a biopsy to be done? The vet has mentioned food intolerance, but can he really be that sensitive of food that he can't even handle a tiny amount of dry food or even raw turkey?

I know vomiting is a symptom of so many things, and maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but I feel like this has to be something serious. Any inputs? Should we go ahead with x-rays? Ask for an ultrasound?

I probably would ask for an ultrasound.  An ultrasound gives an idea of what is going on with the soft tissue.

First of all, I'd ask the vet for a limited ingredient diet food and to do a fecal test for parasites and send a sample off to the lab for the PCR diarrhea panel.  Then, ask the vet for something to help stop the diarrhea.  Secondly, I would definitely get the x-rays done to see if there's anything wrong internally.

I have a cat who is on Royal Canin Gastrointestinal HE food, a dry food for sensitive tummies.  He's been on it since he was about 8 mos old and he's now 5.

As for the vomiting, look at what you're feeding him.  Many cats cannot tolerate anything with fish in it.  Stick to chicken or turkey varieties.
