I recently adopted a 10 year old Tabbi. I fell in love with her beauty and personality but she had a problem. She is toothless (has 3 teeth). The county shelter was feeding her hard food (science diet) softened with water. Started introducing wet food to her science diet and loved the wet food more than science diet. She now does not care for the mixed food and only eats the wet food. I brought'Madam Toothless' to her vet check up after her adoption and was told she is a little under weight. What brand could I buy with high calorie count to gain her some pounds? Reminding you she is practically toothless. Thank you!

What a sweet baby! I general feed my cats Wellness brand, and unfortunately the label does not list calories, only portion size. If I were you I would probably ask around at your local pet store and see if they sell any supplemental foods that you can give her along with her regular diet.

Congratulations on your adoption! She is very pretty, and just by looking I would have never guessed she is 10! She looks very young.

Many folks think an all wet food diet is superior (myself included), so no dry should be no problem. The foods with gravy have a higher carbohydrate count than the pate styles, so I imagine they must also be higher calorie. She may not even really need they extra calories to gain weight. A regular, steady diet in a loving new home will most likely get her up to a good weight in just a few weeks.

There is a great nutrition site called catinfo.org that has a comprehensive chart that may be helpful to you. It lists lots of common cat foods and breaks down the fat, protein, and carb content in each, and also lists a total calorie count for the can. I think I am pasting a link to the charts here (I'm really bad with this sort of thing...): http://www.catinfo.org/docs/FoodChartPublic9-22-12.pdf

Edit: Yay! The link worked! Best of luck to you and Tabbi in your new life together!

I agree that probably just regular meals in a loving home will help fatten her up. Also, the canned food is going to be easier for her to eat and digest, than softened dry food, most likely.

I would think that any of the high quality low carb canned foods should be pretty good.

Thank you for adopting a senior kitty!

Wow. she doesn't look anywhere near 10. What a little cutie she is!!  You are a sweetheart for taking in a senior cat- much less one with a "special need"

I would definitely keep her on the wet food. I'd try a few brands and varieties to see what she likes. Some winners in our house are:

Friskies pates.

Sheba pates

Fancy Feast pates

Nutro Natural Choice minced/sliced/pates and chunky pates

Pride by Instinct Rabbit, duck, chicken and lamb varieties

Nature's Variety Instinct (all are pates)

Red Barn Tricky Chicky

I rarely give mine fish. They eat mostly chicken, turkey, some beef, rabbit ,duck and lamb.

Congrats on your adoption! I always love to see a senior kitty go to a good home. As for the food I would try feeding a kitten food. They are higher in calories than reg cat food. Wellness core kitten food is really great food and is high in calories and protein. I would also try feeding her several times a day and as much as she will eat. This will help her get all the calories she needs until she is up to a healthy weight. You may find that just eating wet food will help her put on the weight she needs as she was probably having trouble eating enough of the dry food even though it was soaked with water. Good luck with your beautiful girl!
