From what I saw online kittens thus age can't purr. But I just fed him the powder formula and he fell asleep immediately and he is now purring :)

Kittens purr from birth!

You'll be surprised when you go through that whole can raising him! If you bought a smaller can you'd end up getting another. You'll see ;).

Now, your next job is to borrow a scale from someone, or you'll be visiting the produce section at the grocery store to weigh him every day. We have to know a daily weight. And you have to feed through the night.

And, how are his poops?

He is a real cutie! :)

He is sleeping still. I think the other formula was really upsetting his tummy because he didn't sleep this contentedly before. He is also sleeping a little farther away from the heat bag. Before he slept with his big ol tummy on the rice bag and his tummy made lots of noise and now it doesnt

Well, there you go :).

If he gets cool he'll move closer to the heat source.

How is his poop looking?

Still runny and orange. But I have noticed his little bottom is red. How can I keep from irritating it?

You can put olive or veggie oil on it.  Or if you have some diaper ointment like desitin you can use a little of that.

I have vegetable oil, but what about baby oil? Would that work too?

I don't know about baby oil.  The veggie oil isn't toxic if the kitten manages to eat some.

He's too little to lick his own bottom. Veggie and olive oil are natural though. A tiny bit of diaper ointment works too.

And, if the poop continues runny and orange he will need to see a vet. It started last night, right? So let's see how he is in the morning. I'm thinking he's probably going to need a prescription from a vet for bacterial infection.

Did you happen to get clear pedialyte? If so, use this to mix his formula with instead of water. He needs to stay hydrated while having diarrhea.

No pedialyte unfortunatly. I just need to convince my husband (newly married, 2 months woohoo) to let me buy some for the kitty. He isn't a huge cat person and he is the only one making money right now. It's not that he doesn't want the little kitty to live but I can tell he is frustrated that I took this on and he feels put out.

Best wishes on your marriage!

Well, pedialyte is not much, but you might want to prepare him for a vet visit. Are you back to teaching and earning this fall?

Hopefully he'll come around and give the little guy a chance. Are you all set with your alarm clock for the night feedings?

This is from fresh eggs daily, not my post at all. This is similar to pedialyte until you can buy some.

"Here's a simple Homemade Electrolyte Recipe that is easy to mix up in a pinch:

1 Cup Water
2 teaspoons sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon baking soda

Use full strength for severely ailing chickens, otherwise mix into their drinking water as needed, a cup per gallon of water.

Replacing the electrolytes lost during times of oppressive heat could mean the difference between life and death to your chickens.

You can also add this electrolyte mix to water for your dogs, cats, horses and other animals. Even mix into a little fruit juice for yourself or your kids."

As far as work for the fall goes it's complicated. Our apartment is turning into lower income and we just moved in a month ago. So in order to have a prayer of staying I can't go back to work until after they certify us to stay in October. Luckily I am a Para educator and they are ALWAYS looking for more people in the special needs classrooms which I love. So that's my pickle.
