Need help with 3-4 week old kitten

Ask upfront what their intentions are. Because if they have no intention of helping her, you do usually have the option of taking responsibility for the kitten.

I just dropped her off to the vet. None of it really makes any sense to me. I asked what will happen. The receptionist said the kitten will be seen by the vet tonight and then he will let the SPCA know diagnosis and cost. The SPCA will decide if the kitten will live at that time. I asked who will be in during the night to feed the kitten but they didnt know. It's only 7 pm here and they said it could be morning before we hear of anything. I asked if I could be told the outcome be fore a decision is made and the receptionist said I would have to speak to the SPCA. I asked why is this deemed an emergency. Why could I have just brought her in tomorrow morning to avoid the over night stay. She has no answers. I'm here sitting in the vet parking lot. The receptionist promised me that the vet will not just put her down without looking at her. I don't know if I believe it. I'm going to try to contact the SPCA lady to see what will happen and if the cost is too much but the diagnosis isn't too bad if I could adopt her and pay her expenses. My awful fear is that there is not to be a vet exam Thant she is there for euthanizatin

Is there any way you can go in and take her back now?

They have the doors locked. I'm in such a panic.

I tried calling the SPCA but their message manager is full. I messaged her on Facebook via my daughters account and asked she call me. She has not. I just don't have a good feeling about this. I took that kitten when they were in desperate state to find a foster home for her and I stayed up every night with her to feed her every 2 hours and if they put her down without asking if I want to adopt her and take on the cost then I am going to be extremely pissed off. Extremely. She has read my Facebook message but no reply or call. My god. I must sound like a mad cat person. I'm really not. I'm just worried.

I can understand your concerns. It's out of your hands now until morning, or until you hear back from someone.

Would they just euthanize her without looking at her.

Well, hopefully you have made enough "noise" to be heard. And since your daughter is volunteering there perhaps extra consideration will be given. Just get on the phone first thing in the morning and see what's what.

I'm not usually a noise maker but I feel someone's got to be for this kitten.

They should attempt to treat her with antibiotics and/or worm medicine, depending on what she has.

But if their funds are stretched and they are over-crowded and she is sick, who knows?

Yes and I'll understand if she is very sick and then we will do what's best for her. But all I expect and believe she deserves is to be re-examined. I'll cover the cost. I told the SPCA that in my note to her. I'll adopt her if that's what it will take. I told them that too. Maybe I'm expecting the worse and maybe they will help her and I'll have her back tomorrow. My god this is hard stuff. I never realized how much so. I thought I would be just feeding her until she was adopted. Guess that's not always the way it goes. I'll keep you updated. It helps to just have everyone who has been part if this discussion to vent to and to express my concerns. Thank you.

We are here to offer support! Animal care involves so many aspects, including the reality of finances and politics at rescue organizations. Even just feeding an animal this young is exhausting, so fosters help to make everything work.

Let's hope you will be picking her up tomorrow. Lots of stray kittens have infections and parasites - and therefore diarrhea - but they are successfully treated.

This situation is frustrating because you have not received any answers yet. I think you will tomorrow morning. I'm doubly glad you put your intentions in writing!

She is home! I went down to the vet office this morning and seen a different vet from the same office who examined her. He done a swab off her bum and she has coccidia. He gave her an antibody injection and I'm bringing her back at 11 for the second. She will get 5 injections all together. If only the first vet had done the swab all of this wound have been avoided but at least she is still here. Still no reply from SPCA so unsure who is covering her cost.

No because the lady did not reply to my email which is strange as I offered to pay for all of her care. I'm hoping at some point someone will contact me. I had a conversation today with a woman who deals directly with this organization and the review wasnt good. But she is home with us now and that's really all that matters. I'm not going to contact the SPCA again. I'll wait it out and see. Thank you for all of your posts. I truly appreciate each and every one.

I am glad you have the baby home again.  Hope the medicine works quickly!  So are you going to keep the kitty now?  When this was happening to us, when we took Snowy back for her recheck and the shelter vet couldn't even find a record of having her, despite her being in the shelter prior to us foster, and us having taken her back in once already in the 10 days we had been fostering, I told me daughter we just ought to never contact the shelter again.. but she went ahead and kept after them until we adopted her.  Should have just saved the fee!  I don't have any personal experience with this, but my co-worker who told me about the shelter priorly loosing funding told me about some friends of hers who fostered an animal for a couple years and then one day the shelter demanded the animal be returned.

I'm so glad you have the kitten and everything is fine.  I was worried they put the kitten down and that's why they weren't returning your calls.

Yes I am adopting her. How can I not? . Well perhaps I should contact them again and tell them I want to adopt her which I already did but ill do it a second time. At least it's in writing. And yes my biggest fear was that they were going to put her down without looking at her It has been such a stressful situation for everyone. Needless to say noone got much sleep last night. I guess the SPCA is overrun with homeless and sick animals and money is always a concern. I can respect that but the total lack of communication is strange but maybe it's policy. I'm not sure. While I'm very grateful that they have decided to help this kitten I've also decided I will not foster again. I will though continue feeding the strays and donating to my pet charities. The second vet though was extremely informative this morning and explained her medical plan. He was really really good. My daughter is moving to Prince Edward Island to attend the veterinarian school there and I had to ask her if she is still sure about that after all of this. Lol I'll keep you all updated!
