If you return this kitten with diarrhea this bad, she will probably be euthanized. They don't say this outright, but kittens are a dime a dozen. They don't waste time or money on sick kittens :(.

Yes she had her baby teeth. But I'm
Not agreeing to have her euthanized. Will I have a voice at all in that decision? Of course I would agree if we find out its something fatal but there is no way I would agree if its treatable. I will take her to a different vet on Monday if she is no better by then with the diet change and I'll pay for it so noone has to know. A positive thing is there is no blood in poop today although still not formed.

Yes. She sleeps next to our male adult and he has been cleaning/licking her. Our female adult doesn't like her or have any interest.

No, you would have no say-so in any decision since she is not your cat. And they would not tell you they will euthanize her.

They can take her from you at any time as well since she is a foster.

Let's hope the new diet helps. It will not eliminate parasites though.

You can adopt her though.

And if she has her baby teeth she will be able to eat wet cat food mushed up with formula as well if she's ready. You could try some on a paper plate.

Are you giving the present diet to her in a bottle?

The euthanasia thing really depends on where you are located. Where I am at the large shelters are all no-kill. Obviously, they will humanely euthanize if it is necessary but they'll never euthanize an animal with a treatable condition. Money is usually the problem with vet care through shelters. If you pay for it they should be fine with that.

The SPCA has a clear statement in their mission policy regarding euthanasia.

Do you happen to have a link to that policy? The SPCA that I'm aware of has the policy I mentioned.

Yes I'm putting the mixture in her bottle. She is feeding from the bottle well. I'm not sure what their policy is about euthanizing. I would be devastated if they just went ahead and did that to her without at least first trying to help her. I'm going to sneak her to a different vet that's about an hours drive from here. I'm hoping they will have no way of knowing of the situation and if they do I will just say I just wanted another opinion because to be honest I don't feel like the vet here did anything at all. He didnt check her out or anything. I had no answers after I left the vet than when I went in. I'm going back to work ( teaching) next week so something has got to be done to correct the situation as I won't be home to clean up her poop etc during the day. I tried getting her to feed on her own twice in the past few days but no success yet. I'll keep my adult cats away from her for now.

That is NYC's policy. The site directs you to petfinder.com for volunteer opportunities outside of NYC and the place I foster for shows up on petfinder.

Yes I'm feeding the mixture to her via bottle. She is feeding well. I'm not sure what the euthanize policy is here. I would be devastated if they did that to her without at least trying to help her first. I'm going to sneak her off to a different vet hospital to have her re-examined. I'm hoping they do not find out but if they do then ill cross that bridge but at least I'll be crossing it with hopefully medication to help the kitten. I'll just tell them that I just wanted another opinion. I do believe it comes down to cost. They may be overwhelmed with vet costs and I guess a sick 3 week old kitten is not priority. I have to return to work in several weeks ( teacher) so I do have to get this figured out as I can not be home to clean up her poop and to wash her. Someone here will feed her etc but poop is not everyone's cup of tea. I tried getting her to eat on her own twice the past few days but no success yet. I think she is too young. I posted a picture of her but not sure if it worked. I don't see her anywhere.

Is there a way you can google the shelter and search the site for info on their policy? You can always call and ask. They don't need to know the situation and that you are fostering. I'm sure it's semi-normal for them to get calls asking about it from both those who want to adopt and those thinking about bringing their pet to surrender. There is a shelter here that has limited funds for animals in their care but they won't euthanize an animal that just needs meds. You may have to go in with a host of questions and not take silence for an answer. It is incredibly irritating that the vet has been so unhelpful.

My daughter just had a call from the SPCA and was told to drop the kitten off to the vet. The SPCA lady said she is admitting the kitten for now. I called down to see what time the appointment is and the receptionist said they have no record of an appointment. I'm not sure why the kitten is being admitted? I always thought you brought your pet with you and then the vet examines the pet and you pay your bill and leave with your pet. Why does she need to be dropped off and admited?

They are recalling the kitten - taking her back. This is where they will hopefully medicate the kitten and get her well - or not.

This must be a follow-up to your calling the secretary back about her condition.

We fostered a cat and the shelter we fostered for was not okay with us taking her to another vet. Our vet called the shelter to get medical records and see what all treatment the cat had received prior and the Shelter refused to give the vet records, advised the vet they were legal guardians our cat and that he should not be treating her and then called us and demanded that we either return the cat to the shelter or take the cat  to the shelter vet for treatment which e had alreay done - long story.  A co-worker told me the shelter had already lot funding a couple years ago because of so many violationsand sick animals in their care so  am pretty sure thats why they came unglued at us taking the at in to another vet, at our own expense.  So, we payed the shelter full adoption fee so we could resuce the cat from them.  Very sad.
