Quick and last question, I've weighed them and know their weight, but how do I tell them apart they all look the same. Any ideas

My cat had 4 orange tabbys we put a little dot of nail polish on the rear left paw of each one. You can also use what lies but we didn't have 4 different color ones so we used the nail polish.

I tried yarn that's what my mom used to do but Selena (momma) took them off she did not like it at all. Any specific type of polish? I don't want to make them sick

Yes, mom won't go for foreign things tied on her babes :)

Dot of nail polish on tail tips, or a sharpie marker dot in different spots of each one works fine.

Where you write and track their weights, make a side note of where that kittens mark is.

So I have another thread and was helped thoroughly and now my stray gave birth on Friday. Now we've seen a vet I'm going to spay, question is they are 4 days old growing nicely. The neighborhood TOM is spraying outside my house. You can smell it, it's horrible. Now she keeps meowing, even when feeding, eating, cleaning, or using her litter box. I've called the vet and he isn't in at the moment so I am at a loss. She is taking great care of her babies and they are growing great. She just wont shut up. to put it as nice as I can. Everything else is fine, yet as of this morning if you don't pet her while she feeds she meows and purrs. then she will clean them and pass out. It has only been since about 11 my time since it started and it is now 3:14 pm. I have never seen a cat do this. Please any advice would be appreciated.

Oh and she also sits at the box and meows as she looks at them. I am so confused, her teats aren't hard and red either. The Vets receptionist asked me to look explaining it could be that but she is actually happy when they feed.

It sounds like she could be in heat, which, believe it or not, is entirely possible shortly after giving birth. The tom showing up supports this, as they can detect a female in heat from far away. So, do not let her outside whatever you do, and in a few days it should be over. You need to wait until the kittens are 6-8 weeks old to spay mom, so she may have another heat cycle before then. It's annoying, but as long as she feeds her babies, you'll get through this.

That's what I thought too, her constant mews are so loud and nerve racking. We just closed up the window that we had cracked for air and she calmed down. But kittens are doing well and she feeds and cleans them so I guess that is that. I just assumed with how late in the season it might all be over. Guess not.

Just take it one day at a time for now, and start asking everyone you know about homes for the kittens. I'm glad you're ready to spay in a few weeks.

When you say pass out, do you mean sleep or actually go KO? I'm a bit confused.

Anyway. The rest sounds like she's in protection mode. The tom outside is marking hit territory outside your door, which is basically her territory. She's a protective mom and she worries over her kittens a lot due to the tom marking in her territory where her babies are. I don't think this is heat; this is a very worried and distressed mom.

You can try to clean the markings of the male cat outside and make sure you neutrialize the smell. For us it might not be that clear, but cats can smell it if you just clean it with water and soap. Shops sell urine neutrializers, but you can also try to make some at home. I don't know how to, to be honest, but I'm sure google has that answer for you ;)

Sorry I meant she goes to sleep she isn't passing out like fainting, I've cleaned the house but it's hard to get anywhere outside too much due to the heavily wooded area as well as the 100 or more strays that live near us. I sprayed some vinegar water around my house too. That seemed to help and all the other cats outside have been avoiding so far. I used vinegar because I figured it was safe. Your idea helped a lot thank you so much biancavd. I will use it more often if need be.

Hello everyone, in advance thank you to everyone who helped me 2 and a half weeks ago when out stray gave birth. So I need help, all 6 are doing great already found most of them homes, weight is great yet, Selena (momma) cries every time they eat. I know they are cutting teeth and she might be in pain but vet said shed handle it. Is there anyway I can help soothe her in between feedings. Her teats are not infected or anything but she just cries when the eat and fight. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance

You can rub some olive or veggie oil on her nipples for some relief.  Udder Balm would be best for healing.
