it's been a busy and eventful summer for me, lots to do and some unexpected things that have needed dealing with. i haven't found much free time, or been able to enjoy some of my favorite leisure time

activities. i'm just starting to find time to get back to some of my usual things that are relaxing for me. so with this on my mind, for today's Question of the Day --

What are some of the things you like to do in your free time, or to relax?

i'll start!

i think because when i'm outdoors i'm always working on doing things, i like to spend my free time indoors. i really enjoy reading a good book. i like to read for a while most mornings, after i've made the cats and my breakfasts. i also like listening to music most days  -- very relaxing for me. it's usually in the later afternoon or evening that i watch some tv, though many days i don't end up watching any at all. when i'm really tired, watching tv can sometimes be all i have the energy to do and it can help me 'wind down' from a busy day of getting things done. of course, i always enjoy TCS! and i do enjoy playing some computer games -- particularly Mahjong, Backgammon, and Cribbage (i prefer to play against the computer).

i love having a nice quiet day with snick and jaspurr, and they both enjoy that too. i plan my schedule so that i'll have one very busy day, followed by usually a few more quiet days. this works out well for us, and i

feel that having those few quiet days have been earned and i enjoy them.

i love to bake and like to cook, but i don't really consider those leisure time activities.

okay, now it's your turn!

it depends on my mood.  I like to read, do jigsaw puzzles, word puzzles, bake, watch a movie....sleep.
Sometimes I do those things (not the jigsaw puzzles) outside in my backyard.  I really need a hammock!

I like to read to relax and always make sure to have at least a dozen "new" books on my Kindle when we go on vacation.
Walking is a good way to unwind, too.

Something active. I go crazy if I don't get enough exercise. I like walking, hiking, horse riding and yoga, but I spend a lot of time outdoors gardening too.

I love to walk and when I'm really strung, I'll either hit the treadmill or go outside for a walk, preferable by myself, with my music. Gardening is also very relaxing for me.

I do love to read and have always been an avid reader. I'll read anything I can get my hands on most of the time.

I love to cook and bake, but as you say, micknsnicks2mom, cooking isn't really for leisure time. Baking is, though, at least for me, esp in the winter. I enjoy it when I have the time to really do something and not just do it because it needs to be done..I truly love to knead bread.

I enjoy coloring (and I know there's a separate thread on that). Lately, I've not had a lot of time to do that.

Reading (especially since I bought an e-reader) and gardening.  And playing with my furball, Ruby.

I like doing crafts, mostly knitting or crochet. Right now, while I'm surfing the Internet, I'm working with a small loom, making squares for my art class (we're working on a group project involving fabrics).

I like reading as well, watching movies (while I knit...), cooking, taking photographs...

I also like learning languages.

It depends on how I am. I always used to find yoga or walking (or even ironing) great, but the first two are much more of a struggle now (I've been banned from ironing since I broke the iron by repeatedly dropping it whilst ironing). Horse riding - not so much. My little madam demands FULL concentration :lol3:

More sure fire ways these days are cuddling the animals, listening to music, chanting/meditating, colouring (thank you Pam :D ), reading, watching TV. Crafting is a double edged sword - I used to find it relaxing, but it's far less so as I've become more perfectionist with it

Read, listen to music, create art, online games, etc.

Indoor activities. Not an outdoor person at all.

I have too much work and not enough relaxing and I am on high speed
most of the time between the two jobs, BUT........

I love TCS

I collect antique postcards on ebay,

I love old movies from the 30's and 40's,

AND the best part of my day is any of the time I spend with Speedy
and going for our walk on the harness.

Things I would love to do to relax someday in addition to above...............

perennial gardens

sewing

getting to the beach A LOT

traveling (it has been more than 15 years since I have been able to travel on a vacation because I took care of my Dad 10 years(my best ten years in life) and since my Dad passed away, I have not been able to afford it.

volunteering with cats.

This is a great question of the day.  I am enjoying the varied responses.

Hello to all!
Did I mention I like to also relax by putting emoticons in posts!!  Two years ago, I did not know what an emoticon was!

oh, jigsaw puzzles! i enjoy doing them too, but i do them on my computer (with this program -- http://www.brainsbreaker.com/). one of the things i love about that jigsaw puzzle program is that i can easily create jigsaw puzzles from pics i find on the internet or my own pics (that i've uploaded into my computer).

i like word as well as number puzzles.

The only thing I do to relax is sit down and watch TV during my kids afternoon nap time. Sometimes I browse on the computer instead but usually try to get caught up on shows I've missed.

it's been many years since i've been horseback riding. my dad taught me to ride, and i really enjoyed it.

i've enjoyed gardening too! i don't have as much time available for tending flower gardens these days though. i did have a vegetable garden a few years ago, which i enjoyed. but since this is an agricultural area, there's all sorts of fresh grown fruits and vegetables available here in season -- so now i buy from roadside stands or the farmer's markets.

i haven't had the time to bake this summer. so when fall gets here and my outdoors work is completed (or at least well under control), i'm going to enjoy baking again. last winter, during the most frigid part i did some extra baking. that provided extra heat, and i froze some of those baked goods for use during the busier times in the warmer weather -- even with the wood stove kept cranking there were some days that it was a struggle to keep the temp up in my house. in fact, i'm currently enjoying a loaf of banana bread that i baked last winter.
