Hello. I had a question. My cat one day ago was spayed. Shes a two year old domestic shorthair named Talula. She was spayed and when we went to pick her up from the non profit spay and neuter place we got a giant shock.
Talula had went into cardiac arest(sp) they had put her on oxigen and i guess she was down for 20 minutes. However they brought her back!
But now theres a few things i wanted to share and hopfully get answers and also want to knkw if anyone had experiences like mine.

Talula can not move..well. She barely moves at all and its been about twp days now. My wife is feeding her with a syringe medicne tube thing like from a childs medicine. Which little talula seems to be activly eating just fine. And drinking as well. But body movment is minimal if at all. Shes peeing on herself as bad as it sounds i see it as a kinda good thing that we know we are keeping her hydrated.

Most terrible thing of all. Shes blind...

Now, before" take her to a vet!" , we have and no one can tell us what happened. Or why she cant see other than she had a bad reaction to the anistetic(sp) used and we are to monitor her..

She seems to be getting better kinda. Taking her short busts of strength to stand then back to sleep. We are trting so hard to keep her going.

Was the vet a general vet or a feline specialist? It would be best to find a feline specialist or better yet a University Vet School. The University clinics I've been to have not been any more expensive than the regular vet, possibly just a bit cheaper.  The University would have multiple vets with multiple specialties.

What has happened to your girl sounds terrifying, to you and her. Often things get worse the longer they go untreated. Please do a search first thing and make some calls.

I do not know what has happened to your kitty and I hope someone who does comes on quickly! If she were mine I would hurry. I do so hope it is a pinched nerve or something that will get better with time, but it sure is scary!

The vet we took her to was a general vet. My wife is looking for a specialist aa we speak.
Last night Talula stood up on her own! Meowed then layed back down. Im hoping that us feeding her and making sure she has water is giving her strength untill we can find someone to help.

Absolutely! You are absolutely doing the right thing! Hydration # 1, but the food will give her strength, and keep her from having other problems that come from a lack of food. Liver failure for one, cats are unique in not being able to go without food for any length of time without serious consequences.

If money is an issue, do not hesitate to ask about payment plans and CareCredit.

First, I am so sorry to hear this has happened to you and Talula! And good to hear that there seems to be some improvement in that she has been able to stand.

It's very likely that Talula suffered some brain damage or a Traumatic Brain Injury due to going into cardiac arrest. If this is the case, palliative care now and time will see how much function she regains.

I would be getting into with a neurologist for some advice. But, I do suspect there is the need for some wait and see.

Let us know if you are able to get in touch with a specialist.

Hello everyone. First I'd like to thank you all for your thoughts but I wanted to share with you what happened to our daughter talula. She didn't make it. She started having seizures that started to last for 15 minutes at a time. We took her to the vet again and they informed us that it was all neurological. When she suffered from cardiac arrest she ended up with damaged brain tissues so acute that she wasn't really even her anymore. We tried everything we could and had so much hope for her. I wanted to thank the few of you that helped with the information and the thoughts.

I am so very sorry! You tried so hard to do everything right. Getting her spayed was being a responsible cat parent. Then you tried so hard to get her help. Sometimes everything goes wrong, I have been there, ever so recently. I wish I could give you big, big hugs.
