Hi, I was wanting to ask a few questions regarding cat shows, and potentially showing my HHP, but it wouldn't allow me to make a thread in the actual forum for that, so I guess I'll put it here. Sorry!

Anyway, I was looking into showing my HHP in a show, and I found a show that will be near me next month. What I'm wondering is:

A) is does this show look like a proper show, or whatever? Will it be a good show to attempt?

B) If I decide to show her, what should Arya and I expect/what will I need to bring with me to be prepared? I'm just worried I'd get there and not have a clue what I was doing, and end up embarrassing myself.

Thanks!

It took me a while to find the small print :read:. The show is sponsored by the American Cat Fanciers Association. It's smaller than CFA or TICA but definitely a legitimate association. Their main website is http://www.acfacat.com/. Just looking through quickly I didn't find anything there that tells you how to prepare for a show. The flyer you linked has an email address for the show manager. I'm sure she would be happy to answer any questions you have.

I can help you prepare for a CFA show (The Cat Fanciers' Association), but I don't know how much of that would apply to ACFA. Unfortunately, the next CFA show in your area isn't until January. I haven't had time to check the TICA calendar to see if they have any shows there.

ETA: There is a CFA show in Crystal, MN, September 26 that's listed as planned but not yet licensed.

In Sweden and our European big organisation of Fife, the usual is you must belong to a local cat club.  And your apply goes through the secretary in your local club.  Which also means, you must apply in good time.   But on the other hand, the local cat clubs is usually happy to give you advices and help.  And not seldom, you get occasion to co-ride to the Show.  Or at least, some other of the members is willing to do some mentoring while on the Show...

But it seems its a little easier on the US based organizations - at least, in USA proper.  You dont even need to belong ot that organisation, it seems...

Best advice is probably, you try and visit some shows, so you see how its usually done.  And or talk it through with somebody else who use to participate.  Many crucial details happens before the public is admitted.   For example, what happens in the entrance, where the owner and the cat is coming in...

I can also help with a CFA show, but not with this association as I don't know what the rules are. I checked the TICA calender and did not see anything in your area - but I just checked quickly. While the link below is for showing in CFA it may provide a general idea of what is needed.

Don't worry about embarrassing yourself. I suggest you tell the entry clerk you are new. Sometimes they will  bench you near an experienced person to help you. The idea is to have fun, not worry yourself sick.
