thank you all very much c:  i will try to look for a scale and if i cant ill buy one.

recently lost my job so im digging into my saving to do all i can for this kitten

i have called the shelters  near by and they dont seem to have the room for her

or someone to give her the 24 hour care sge needs

they offerd me to put her to sleep :c which is awful

im certain she has a chance at surviving.

i made an appointment with  a new vet that will prescribe the medicine you guys suggested

since the vet i was seeing didn't want to give me the medicine. i called and asked

and the formula i got for her is  this one  the next pet store is like 2 hours away. the little pet store we have in town this is all they have

@Buttery Cat   If you find a rescue organization and are willing to foster the kitten,  they may help out with vet care, meds and sometimes food and supplies.  A lot of times kittens are turned away due to lack of foster homes available.

That is a good KMR. How much are you feeding her at each feeding? Is she on a bottle?

She does not need to be put to sleep! I am glad she will be seeing a vet. When does she go?

Thank you for caring for her!

So she is maybe 10 to 12 days old. She should be getting 8 mL per feeding every 3 hours for a total of 64 mL in a 24-hour period.

I base this on an estimated weight of 8 ounces, which is generous, so that she is getting enough milk.

I hope this helps. If you can let us know how much she weighs and how much she is currently drinking we can give better guidelines. She has to gain weight to survive, and we want to help you save this kitten! :)

PS: I think we mentioned that she has to eat every three hours through the night as well.

@sarthur2  you are always so helpful, I consider you an asset to our site! Encouraging, supportive and informative :)

That said, I have to say that I would like to revise your estimate a bit, I hope you don't mind!

I'm guessing the baby's weight to be closer to perhaps 6 ozs or just under at this point. I think attempting to feed the amt of an 8 oz baby is going to really be difficult.

I think it's safe to aim for 48 mls of formula, and I also think if you are able to feed every 2 hours during the day, then 3 hours during the night, you won't be having to feed quite as large of an amt during each feeding.

Now on the other hand, if she will take it, go for it! But usually when they are good eaters then get full and stop, it's pretty hard to force them to take more, so spreading it out will help this.

So as you see it is so important to know the weight and be able to monitor this. When she is full and stops eating, and is getting a daily weigh in, you will easily know if she needs more or not, due to the amt gained.

All we can do is guessimate :)

Are you helping her to potty? Never feed her if her hands feel cool/cold when you touch them, her temp needs to be slowly raised to your body temp.

i warm her up before feeding just in case if shes cold but her ears and paws uaually feel warm

i warm up her kitten formula each feeding with warm water i dont microwave it c: and i put her next to a warmish bottel as well after feeding. i read the warmness of both helps them digest.

tomorrow ill be going to the vet and will weigh her there   as well as pick up her medicine she needs so she gets better and proabbly go to the store and buy one so i can do that everyday

ill update you all on how much she weighs then.

thank you all again so much.

Awesome! Thank you so much!

The vet will also give you a weight on her if you have not bought a scale yet.

Let us know what medicine you get and her weight as soon as you know.

Thank you and good job so far! :)

I would not reheat the same formula over and over, here is an easy solution I use.

Take an empty plastic water bottle, gatorade bottle, or some sort that has a screw on top you can close.

Make up enough for 2 days only, it shakes and mixes super easy in a bottle too.

Store in fridge, when it's time to feed, pour out the amt she will eat that one time, what she doesn't just dump and rinse out.

Heat in a mug of hot water, and feed. Fresh and simple!

It does sound small. It's a little under 6 ounces. I think the clavamox will help her.

The nutrical supplement is very good.

She should poop soon if she has enough food in her system.

We need to get this baby gaining weight as quickly as possible. Are you able to buy a scale at Walmart?

How much (in mL's) is she drinking now and how often?

What Gatorade thing are you referring to?

I said she should not reheat the bottle with formula in it over and over, to make a batch up enough for 2 days in a gatorade bottle and store in fridge, pour a small amt in bottle for each feeding instead and warm.

Constipation due to lack of enough formula, if no poop in another day or two start adding a couple drops of oil to each bottle feeding, mineral or olive oil is good.

Helps get things lubed up in there!

Saline water??? What the heck.......

No scale just tells you that vet doesn't have much experience in the baby kitten department huh?

ill make a trip to walmart to get a scale. the ones they sell in town are around 40 bucks.

around 7 or 8 ml per feeding every 2 or 3 hours .  she eats more evryday

i told him about the ointment but he said that since she had a mild infection that the saline water would be best

what kinda oil? i have extra olive vergin oil

the vets around here honestly dont seem to have baby kitten experience :c

there was one on the edge of town that delt with these sorts of things but they closed

Olive oil is fine.

If her eyes don't get better you can call and they should be able to give you the ointment without having to bring the kitten in since they already looked at her for it.

Walmart has scales way cheaper than that. Get one that has small gram and/or ounce measurements, but hopefully goes up to a few pounds. I hear the digital ones are good.

It sounds like she is eating very well. Once we know her weight we will know exactly how much she needs, and can track her weight gain daily. This, along with the nutrical and clavamox, will hopefully pull her out of the woods soon.
