Such great news that Xander's doing better
I love that your DD is so involved - such a great learning experience...and the bonding will feel extra special because he's so young.
Yes, this is why I don't handle him too much, that way they will bond and maybe he will grow old with her. She is young enough that he will be with her many, many years to come. She is doing an excellent job being a kitty momma.

UPDATE ON XANDER.....

My DD called me yesterday and told me he was breathing was gravely and his eyes were runny. I had to work last night at my other job and couldn't go home so I called my vet and explained what was going on.

He said it sounds like he has a URI and to bring him in today. I told him I still had some amoxicillin left from when Luci was sick and if I could give him some of that overnight. He said to cut the dose a little less than half and give it to him last night and again this morning to see if it would help. If it didn't to bring him in today and he would run some tests. Luci was given 1ml so I gave him a little less than half than that. Luci was really little for her age anyway. I need to take him for his vet check anyway so I will make an appointment for him.

He seemed to be breathing a little better this morning and I told DD to keep an eye on him and make sure he is not distressed. The meds is dosed every 12 hrs and I don't want to give him anymore until tonight. He ate, drank and used the potty this morning so that is positive.

He likes to get under our freezer and I'm wondering is the dust from that is what caused this so I told DD to keep him out from under it if at all possible.

Thanks @Columbine. He's had such a rough start already. I'm going to call home soon to see how he's doing.
Maybe his breathing is even better now.

Just to say I think it is wonderful how you've helped little Xander. We adopted a stray last summer and had similar ups and downs and he is now wonderfully happy and healthy. So good luck to you and the little one.

I just got off the phone with DD and she said his breathing wasn't as harsh as it was so that's a good thing.  Thanks for asking.

So far so good.

He did go back under the freezer, so I told her to put something in front of it to keep him out. He's a stubborn little cuss, he moved the plastic guard she put in front of it so he could get back under it again. I told her to put the guard BACK up and sit a chair in front of it, that should stop him, LOL I hope.

What a relief he's responding to the medication.  Did you check with the vet how long to keep giving the medication for?
Yeah I called him yesterday and he told me to keep him on for 7 days and as long as he continues to improve he should be ok. He does want me to bring him in in a week to check him and make sure he don't have worms. He needs a bath but I'm not going to bathe him until this URI is better. I'm not going to take any chances.

He is eating, drinking & using the potty normal so that's good. I gave him his meds this morning and he sounds so much better.

He was trying to catch a fly last night. It was so cute. I called DD today and she said he sounded much better. I showed her how to give him is meds tonight since I'll be at work so she will be able to give them to him at 6 pm.

Ha ha, fly hunting is a great activity for a young kitty and a nice sign that he isn't feeling too sick.  Keep up with those meds and hopefully he will be well enough for that bath in no time.

He took his medicine this morning like a champ. His eyes are clearing up and he is breathing MUCH better now. He ate his breakfast and is napping according to DD.

Once he is finished with his meds and I know he is clear he will be getting a well needed bath.

I love hearing good news like this
Thanks. I love giving good news. He's still so little but eats great. I will still take him to the vet to be checked once he's finished with his round of meds. I need to get a scale so I can weigh him properly but as long as he's eating and doing well I think it will be alright to wait until next week for his vet check. He is starting to fill out some so I know he's gaining.

I just need to give him a bath. We sprayed for fleas so I don't think that's an issue, he's just dirty from being under the house and hasn't quite learned how to bathe himself yet. My other kitties still don't want much to do with him. My boys will sit near him and smell him but hasn't been mean, nor have they decided to show him any affection. Luci will have nothing to do with him. In her eyes, he is a peasant and is beneath her, LOL

If you want to clean him up some but don't want to risk a bath you can always use microfibre clothes soaked in warm water then wrung out and wrap him up and rub him with those, or wipe him gently with them.  They lift dust and grease off fur really well without soaking and risking chilling the same as giving a bath.

That sounds good. I'll pick up a couple and do that. It will be tomorrow because I have to work tonight but what's one more day, LOL
