One of the most adoptable cats in my TNR colony just outside Raleigh, NC showed up this week with a broken leg that will probably have to be amputated. I have some people offering to donate for her surgery, but what I really need is someone to adopt her or at least foster her.
I have four cats of my own and have been fostering two others in addition to feeding the TNR colony. Between this, singlehandedly running a business, taking care of my elderly mother, and preparing to move to a new house in August, I am completely overwhelmed--to the point where I'm thinking I might have to have this kitty put to sleep. This is the last thing I want to do, but I just can't handle one more responsibility. I can't in good conscience take her back to an outdoor TNR colony with three legs because she'd be too vulnerable to predators.
Everyone drowns me in unhelpful advice, referring me to other rescuers or organizations I'm already familiar with who are also overwhelmed since it's kitten season. I've already talked to them. I've advertised everywhere, but all I get is "I wish I could help, but . . . " messages. I don't need any more pie-in-the-sky suggestions. I need ONE thing and ONE thing only: someone to step up to help.
The thing that really kills me is that I've had a couple stringing me along about adopting this cat. It's been one excuse after another about why they need to wait. Now she's injured, so they don't want her.
The kitty is a small, sweet tortie, about 3 years old, very gentle. She is already spayed and vaccinated. Her right front humerus is broken. She let me pick her up and put her in a carrier, even with a broken leg.
