So...

The college kid we adopted for the next couple of years was texting me today (He just turned 18, anyway). While i thought I was pretty "up' on the latest terminology and texting terms..... the dialogue went like

this:

Me: When would you like to come over for dinner?"

Him: IDK, whenever

Me: My ignorance has to ask what "IDK" means

Him: I don't know

Me: You don't know what it means?

Him: No, I know what it means.

so silence while I google...

It finally clicks in my mind what it means

Me: Nevermind, I figured it out. IDK literally stands for "I don't know"

HIM: You're way behind times! I am laughing so hard right now.

Schooled by a kid in text terms lol...............

Congatulations on your boy getting honors!

hahaha, please don't feel old! I'm in my mid 20's and have friends that are as far as 7-8 years younger than me and they still surprise me with new text speak sometimes! But I also get them back by making up my own!
 I'm a child at heart and attitude

Thanks!

Though he isn't technically "Our" kid ;)

We "adopted" him through our church, basically committing to help him out, love on him, open your home when needed, let them do laundry- feed them etc For the year or two of college life.

@Nebula  Yeah. I read that he was "Adopted". I don't know if you have any children other than cat-children, but I'm sure you've taken quite the liking to the boy, which is why I called him "your boy", I apologize if it was too forward of me to say that

Thank you for helping that boy out! You're certainly changing his life with the love and support you're giving him

When we were children, there was an "adoption day" for children with low income whose parents couldn't be there because of working to keep some food on the table. My mom almost.... almost! lived at the school supporting us so everyone wanted to be "adopted" by her. My sister tells the story of a boy that wasn't picked for adoption and actually picked last because he wasn't "a looker". My mom chose him! When he asked why she didn't choose any of the pretty or smart children, she said "because I can see you will need me the most".

So years passed and this boy actually went to school and did well on his grades. His home broke even more: his dad was sent to jail, his mom became an alcoholic, his younger sister became pregnant at 13, I'm not sure if his brother was killed in a gang fight or became a drug addict. He joined a gang due to peer pressure, but he kept studying as far as he could. My parents could barely afford to provide for our school and food, but my mom sometimes took a small meal to him whenever she saw him and counseled him in life as much as he could. He didn't become a Doctor or, I think, even went to college, but he isn't dead or an addict. One time my sister's boyfriend went to the store and these hoodlums were going to mug him, he was with them not caring, but when he saw who it was, he defended him as his "brother-in-law from his other sister". He still calls my sister "Sister", I don't quite think he knows me since I'm 2 years older than their grade. My mom's small actions made a difference in his life as I can clearly see yours will in this boys life.

I obviously don't know you guy's background story, so my story is in hopes that you can see that you're doing a great job helping this kid out and that even small things make a HUGE difference in someone's life. Thank you!

Oh no offense taken at all :D

He actually has a very supportive mom and step dad. BUT-- he will be living on campus this next 2 years, and our house is 15 minutes from the college. His parents house is an hour away. He has really helped fill the void in our life :D

Reminds me of this joke I read:

"What's the meaning of ignorance and indifference?"
"Don't know and don't care."
"Okay, I'll ask someone else then, although you needn't give me that attitude."

I realized I was old when I refused to update my technology.

Also I really really really dislike some of the current clothing trends and I have for a while.

Because the "kids" will go and put a cami underneath the see through part.  That's what my 18 year old does.  Whatever, I don't understand it either

I'm 20 something and I'm not fond of those shirts! I think the reasons people like them are the reasons I don't
: I get cold and people can see my semi-naked body through them. Please allow me to say what is think  is the reason for see through shirts:

- They are fresher than solids because they let the air in

- They are "sexy" because you can see or show off someone's build and skin through the "shirt" without actually being in underwear

- You can brag about your underwear (jk
 )

- They are "fashionable" because the internet say so

I wonder if they want to sweat to death?  It's been in the 90s and I'm sure not layering in this kind of heat!  I don't like layering in the winter!  It's hard enough to find camis without the useless built in bra!  I've had to resort to cutting those out before.

My other theory is thnner fabric is cheaper so they can make you buy 2 shirts instead of 1!

Men's fashion is just as bad if not worse!  Skinny jeans, man-buns and now man-capris? Or the tight at the calf loose at the body pants.  Are they supposed to be a modern take on hammer pants? (Remember those?
)

Now I need to find an old lady emoji for myself...

See-through blouses were big in the late seventies - now who's showing her age? :lol3: to Capris and Hammer pants.

@MoochNNoodles
 How about this emoji for ya?: :wife:   Not quite "old lady" per se, but I think it works :sweat:

I also hadn't seen man-bun fashion so I googled it and I hate it! It looks like a poopie is stuck to their head! :lol3:   While scrolling for "man-bun" I found this piece of men's fashion :jaw:

PS: I have asked an 18 year old "Why she wears transparent tops" and she said "that's what they sell in the stores, I only like it because its in favorite color" :indiff:
I love that emoji! :lol3:

I dont like the beards either. Most men dont look good in them; just like the man-buns & pony tails. I was glad when the shaggy headed look went out of style for teenage boys too. My eldest nephew never got into that one; probably because he was into a lot of sports. But my friends son & my mothers godson did. But hey; they were old enough for their own regrettable hair decisions. I know I sure made some! :lol3:

I was thinking about it; I'd rather be in the google-it category than the regrettable fashion category again. I mean I'm no trend setter; but its nice not being focused on clothing, hair & accessories!
