I'm going on a four day trip soon and it'll be the first time my cat and I have been separated since her CKD diagnosis. I'm currently managing her issues mainly through diet, she doesn't need subcutaneous fluids yet. She is a very needy cat that needs to be in the same room as me almost constantly, I worry that the stress from being alone (besides the catsitter stopping by) will make her health issues worse. Am I being overly paranoid? Are there any critical warning signs (of a kidney crash, for example) I should tell the catsitter about? Or is that pretty unlikely from such a short separation?

(Actually, I think I'm the one with separation anxiety.)

I realize this may not be practical, but it can be done because we do it, and that is get a cat sitter to actually stay at your place while youre away?

If her condition is stable there is probably not much to worry about unless in the event she got separation anxiety and lost her appetite or something like that.  But for your separation anxiety, i highly recommend that your sitter text you like twice a day with updates (assuming the sitter visits twice a day which he/she should in my opinion) and include at least one photo a day.  Our sitter does this and it helps a lot.

I still have to work out the details with the sitter, but she recently moved and had to leave her cat behind so I think she's at least going to be here for longer than it takes to feed my cat. I don't know if I can convince her to have sleepovers with my cat, though.
