I have two tortis but one has been worrying me for the past week or so. We haven't really had the money to take her to the vet so I was looking for answers else where. Everywhere I have looked has lead me no where. Henna has always been our lazy cat but since our move a year ago I've noticed a severe loss in weight now that they have fleas. I know they are allergic to them but I cant treat them as we are out in the country and there are other animals that are untreated that go in and out of the house. They aren't ours and I don't feel it is our responsibility to treat their animals. Well henna has recently been having the issue with fleas and the irritation from them but here recently i have noticed that she has not been leaving the litter box. She also had a fever the other day and for the past couple weeks she has been sitting in the window and losing her balance and falling out of the window. She has also been very flighty and running all over the room without cause. Today I found her eating her cat litter/ poop. She has never done this before. Her sister our other cat isn't showing this behavior and is very well behaved aside from urinating on any clothes laying on the floor and on our bed when she gets mad at mommy or daddy. But she has done this since we got her. Does anyone know what could be the cause? I don't want to take her to the vet and spend a lot of money if it can be prevented. Any help is very appreciated sorry that I'm all over the place!

It could be so many things would be hard to guess. But sure sounds like you have a very ill kitty. You must treat the fleas ..They can cause a cat to become very anemic...And a host of other problems. Really sounds like the 1st step if you can't get to a vets is get rid of the fleas. But I urge you to try and get her to the vet soon...

This is a potentially serious issue and she needs to see the vet immediately.

Gee. Where do I begin? Cats and fleas don't mix. When cats groom themselves they ingest the fleas and this in turn can cause parasites. Most likely your cat has parasites or worms and has had both for quite some time. I can appreciate your financial situation but either you are going to find a way to get your cat to a Vet and get him treated and soon or you are going to loose him. I hate to sound so harsh or negative but it's as simple as that. Further you must get a handle on the other animals that are in and out of your house that have fleas too as I'm convinced fleas are your culprit. In fact take both your cats to the nearest small animal Vet. Explain your financial situation and see if you can't work out a payment plan or even work your debt to the Vet off in some way. Vets love animals. Pray to meet one who will help you no matter when and if you can pay. Such Vets exist everywhere. Get both your cats de-wormed and treated for fleas. While you are gone from home either hire a pest control service to "bomb" your house for fleas or buy a flea bomb and do it yourself then do that again in 10 days to kill any eggs that may have hatched after the first bombing. Fleas are not healthy for humans either ... Did you know the plague was transmitted by FLEAS ... I know you love your cats or you wouldn't be on this site but if you can't afford to take care of them properly and yourself and your family too (and you and your human family must come first) then consider finding them a good home. Sad as that would be you'd be doing the right thing for both your family and your pets. Good luck. God Bless.
