Apparently, I'm diving into this community. I'm Kelsey, and I have two cats, three-year-old Seymour and 12-week-old Oxford. I have lots od questions, hence multiple threads, but this one is specific to Seymour.
I've had Seymour since he was five weeks old, but within the last, maybe six or eight months, he has started pooping outside of his box, but always near it. Things got noticeably better when I brought home Oxford. I think he had been doing it (and other naughty things for attention! He hasn't chewed on a phone cord or knocked a cup of water over in a while!) Last week though, he started in again. I took both cats to the vet recently and he got the all clear. I could swear he does it now when he's mad at me. For example, I cleaned both boxes and fed them before I left for the night. When I came home this morning, he had pooped on the tile near the box. I imagine he was upset that I spent the night away because he usually sleeps as close to my face as possible. He's used to being free fed, so I think it could be that he is unhaply gaving to wait.
Any ideas on how to discourage this?
