Soft stool

I'm new here and in need of advice. I have an older cat, at least 8. She's a rescue, her skull was fractured, her jaw broken & teeth shattered. X-ray's revealed signs of repeated trauma, multiple fractures over time I was informed. She had exposed nerves and by number of teeth was estimated at two years. She's been mine for the last six & her stools have always ranged from soft but formed to pudding. Fecal matter test showed no worms and the vet said it was likely IBD but she doesn't puke except for the occasional hairball. She's an otherwise healthy, 10lb silver gray cat. I tried transitioning her from Purina to science diet sensitive but she ate the Purina and left the science diet. I've tried probiotics & she hates them, flavored or not. She is not fond of canned food despite having no teeth, and there are two other cats in the house, both rescues, who are just as picky. I live in a small town so my choices on cat food is very limited. Without an actual test I can't be sure it's ibd, and was a little miffed that the vet just assumed that was it so let's do the science diet. Any suggestions?

I feed my sensitive tummy kitty Royal Canin Gastrointestinal HE.  It's a dry food and he loves it.  You might ask your vet to order a sample for you to try.  We also feed all of them grain free wet food.

i have used this also in the past with success. then i transitioned to the over the counter Royal Canin Special 33 which is for sensitive digestive systems.

what stores does your small town have? i assume no Petco or Petsmart.

but if your cat likes Purina, there is Purina Cat Chow Gentle and Purina One Smartblend Sensitive Systems

U r right, Walmart & Orcheln's is it here. I did find Purina Gentle & I am slowly switching them now. Unlike the science diet, they actually eat the Purina Gentle instead of leaving it behind. Thanks for the suggestion, hopefully it will work for them.

If your cat has ibd I would check the ingredients in purina. If it has grain it will
Upset your cats tummy

No test was performed, the vet just said it sounded like that was it. She doesn't throw up, she has the occasional hairball like any cat is all. The nearest place that performs the test is nearly 4 hours away I'm afraid. I did give her some fancy feast classic wet food awhile back, trying to interest her in canned food. It was free of grain and she ate maybe 1/2 tsp then threw it up a few minutes later. I thought that was a little odd. I got a can of science diet for ibd cats from my vet & she wouldn't even try it.

What flavor? Maybe she has a certain allergy to fish, chicken, etc. my cat has ibd so if you need any food suggestions, feel free to ask.

And my car wouldn't eat that science diet either.

This might sound odd, but could you try one of the dry foods designed to prevent hairballs? Some have fiber, like cellulose [emoji]128558[/emoji] sounds gross, but im wondering if adding fiber to her diet might result in harder stools.

I have begun the switch to Purina gentle. If that doesn't work for her I will try hairball control.

The fancy feast was salmon, but when I wat tuna I give each a half tsp as a treat & she's never thrown that up. She does not like chicken. I've tried boiling it for her, I've tried the gerber chicken with chicken gravy too & she turns her nose up at it. She's not fond of beef either.
