Almost 3 weeks ago, I helped to rescue two feral kittens that showed up on someones porch. They were extremely thin and it was obvious they hadnt seen their mother for several days. They were about 5 weeks old. Two girls, weighing only 16 and 13oz. The one girl whom I call Pixie, had a half sized tail with a kink at the end.

As of today, they have both doubled their weight. They have been slow to socialize but will now climb onto my lap for scratches and cuddles.

Today, Id been out all day and when I came home, I noticed Pixie was very quiet. When I went to pick her up she seemed to curl up and shake. She seemed to be in pain in her hind end. I put her on the floor to watch her walk and she was def limping in behind taking small steps. When she tried to climb the climber to get to her favourite sleeping spot, her hind end was too weak to grab, so she just hung there as her sister was trying NOT to help lol.

So, after some thought, this is behaviour I have seen before. I always put it down to her being afraid. ( the shaking and the curling)

Does anyone know if there could a spinal or pelvic deformity that would be causing this..

Her sister is normal and is very active. That said, Pixie is usually very active too but seems to tire faster than her sister Poppy.

Im think an xray is in order

Thoughts or experience on cats with deformed tails

Do you think she had a hard fall? You see how wild they start getting as they play. Have you tried touching her back or leg? She would probably wail holy hell if it is broken. She might wail just because it hurts, and she has a bruise. I think that their bones are still pretty soft at this stage. Probably good Idea to take both to vet for kitten wellness check up. I think it was Catwoman that said that sometimes cats with kinks in their tales are inbred. Do you think te kitten possibly lost part of the tail, and the kink is part of an accident that may have occurred?  Either way, they are at that age for their first visit with the vet.  And possibly talk about spaying soon.

She could have fallen. I do have taller play trees. She did not vocalize when I touched her, just tensed up. Yes, I"m sure it's a case of inbreeding. There was no injury to the tail. It's def something she was born with.

They have someone interested in adopting both girls together. I will see how she is tomorrow. It's the long weekend here so I'd have to go an emerg vet visit.
