Happy Mother's Day everyone! A belated for those who celebrate early in the year, and an early for those who celebrate in the coming weeks!

What are some memories you have of your mothers (grand, great grand, etc.) or mother figures in your life?

I remember my. great grand mother. She was always in bed when we got there. She was tiny and only spoke Yiddish. My sister and I said yes and no in appropriate places and then she'd send us to the drawer to take boiled sweets and our duty was done.
I remember my grandmother. I adored her. Her English wasn't so good and sometimes she got a bit cross that I didn't speak Yiddish. I should have picked it up. My grandparents spoke it as did my parents but languages aren't my forte. I loved to kiss her. She had wonderfully soft cheeks. Every opportunity we got 'gelt' money for all holidaysweekends.

I only had one grandmother.
Of course I remember my mum.
Nuffield said. She was a good mother. Not massively affectionate. Didn't understand that i suffered from depression and had no time for me if I didn't know why I was crying. Fortunately dad didn't care if i didn't know and I'd mascara his nice white shirt!

I'm blessed with a wonderful mother and 2 amazing grandmother's and one step-grandmother.

My mother - back when she was single and I was a little girl she became good friends with another single Mom in our apartment complex.  My Grandparents and Great Aunt and Uncle owned a camp in the mountains.  One summer night they decided to take us on a last minute overnight trip to the camp.  It must have  been a warm night (which is unusual up there!) because I remember Mom and her friend pulling over when we passed the swimming beach on the lake our camp gave us access to.  It was after dark but we all jumped in the water in our clothing.  It was a lot of fun!!

My Maternal Grandmother - I have a million happy memories of her.  This is our first mother's day without her; pulling up those memories is hard right now.

My Paternal Grandmother - She is a firecracker!!  I just love her.  When my cousin and I were teenagers we would spent a lot of time there together; a week or more at a time.  (I would go between my 2 grandparent's houses for a month or more in the summers since I lived out of state.)  Gram was an insomniac; so we could be up as late as we wanted as long as we didn't wake Grandpa.  Gram made the BEST bran muffins.  She would make us tea and we'd sit at the kitchen table together late at night with our tea and muffins.  Or we would watch some classic movies with Gram.  Gone with the Wind was a favorite.  Gram would tell us stories too.

My Step-grandmother I was never close to.  Her English was limited; but her house was fascinating.  She grew up very poor. She didn't have much at all.  So things became important to her.  She collected a lot of thing; everything from nick-knacks and spoons to china dolls.  But my favorite were her refrigerator magnets.  My Step-grandfather had a very long military career and they lived all over the world; so she had some really unique things.

I have some memories of my Great-Grandmother; my maternal Grandfather's mother.  My Grandparents would take me with them to visit her.  She was a tiny little old Italian lady; accent and all.  She lived with my Grandfather's brother and mostly I remember her sitting in an upholstered chair in a front room of the house.  She was losing both her eyesight and her hearing; so I didn't interact with her too much.  She lived to be 99 and I was 9 or so when she passed away.
