Last week I decided to take in a cat which had been sleeping in a car park for months. The cat had been neglected by her owner (who lived by the car park). The woman never let her in, even when the poor darling meowed day and night. She was starved, dirty, riddled with fleas, had conjunctivitis and her damaged teeth has been collecting fur in her mouth which lead to sore gums (you can see the fur hanging out of her mouth in the photo). The woman came out one day and gave me a dirty look for stroking 'her' cat! I felt I had to take action. At midnight, I went to the car park with my carrier. The cat didn't even mind when I picked her up and placed her in. The following day I made an appointment for the vets. She wasn't chipped or wearing a collar with a name tag, so I made the decision to have her chipped, and gave her the name Banoffee. The vet said Banoffee is about 13 years old! I could only think of how cruel her past owner was to have an old darling get in such a state.

After I gave Banoffee a shower (which she oddly purred through with no struggle!), de flead, de wormed, medication given for her eyes and infected ears and hours spent combing out the matted hair and remainder fleas, over the week she has started to shine! I have enjoyed every moment of making sure that Banoffee is treated with all the love she deserves, and

I will continue you to do so. I wish I could help all cats that are in need. Having three now, I think this will be my maximum...for now :)

Yes.   You cant help them all, unless you are in a very special situation, alike a prime minister, or such.

But you can always help at least someone.   And for this someone, it may be a very decisive help.   Like here with  Banoffee, the one which you got without any payment, but on whom you did put in quite a  lot of money, time, effort and love.

All this gratefully taken and received, not minding even a shower.

The world is now a tiny little bit better.  A tiny bit, but yet a substantial bit.

Well done, MadameSir!

What a difference! I pray you are blessed for taking her in and giving her some happiness in her golden years, I'll bet she will be forever grateful and give you much love and affection in the future. Thank you for making such a huge difference in one cat's world!

Thank you for helping this sweet girl. She looks so happy now!!
She was probably happy to get the shower to get rid of all the dirt and bugs that were on her. Cats don't like to be dirty and I'm sure it was not much fun for her to try to groom all of that off of herself and not very good for her either. I hope you have many years of good health and friendship together.

How does she get along with your other kitties?

She's gorgeous :) She's soo lucky to have found you. It's always lovely to read about happy outcomes for neglected/feral cats. I'm sure she's grateful too.

Thank you everyone, just glad I could of been some help :). My two other cats are just less than a years old, so quite the age gap! At the moment Banoffee has made the spare room hers. She is free to come out as the door is always wide open, but she seems to prefer to stay in the room. My cats will go into the room and have a sniff, if their brave enough, walk right up to her face. This is sometimes followed by a hiss from Banoffee, but no lashing out. When I take her down stairs, she doesn't feel comfortable, so runs back up the stairs. On the way up though, she always sits on the stairs for about half an hour. It has been just over a week. I think it will be slow progress with trying to get her to come down by herself. I'm going for the 'treat' option now. Giving her some each time I do bring her down.

I have a foster kitty who is 8 and 2 kitties that are 2 so we have an age gap also. Henry (the permanent foster) is in his safe room, usually with the door open but he hasn't shown any desire to come out. He was in a not so large room at the shelter with at least a dozen other cats and they all shared about 6 large litter boxes. I'm starting to think that he just likes his space and having 2 litter boxes to himself. The girls (Lilith, Sophie and Bailey the border collie) go in and visit but he doesn't come out.

I have a cat I rescued 6 weeks ago (looked it up today - can't believe it's been that long already). Even now, she's very unsure about downstairs and my other cat. She's slowly gaining confidence downstairs, but it's taking time. I'm not at all surprised Banoffee isn't too keen on downstairs yet. Don't stress. It'll come with time.

Banoffee has been coming downstairs now, but unfortunately sometimes attacks my other cats. Since my other two have been indoor cats, they have never been in a scrap, so get really scared when she does start chasing them. It's very rare she attacks them. Normally just growls. I have trimmed all three cats nails to prevent damage. It's odd, it's like she has two personalities. My cats are really friendly and are always walking right up to Banoffee. Most days she will tolerate/ignore them, then randomly lashes out. I think it's just her age. No matter what, I won't be giving up on her. Also having a blood test next week due to blood being in her faeces and not gaining weight. I'm really hoping it's nothing major.

I'm really hoping things settle down.  If she's unwell that could easily be making her grumpy.

that the blood test gives answers and that they are very fixable..

Banoffee posing cute! Looking well now. Had 2 blood test done this week, she came back with Hyperthyroidism, so is now on tablets to control this. Still waiting for the results for the second one which will detect any damage done to the organs from the over active glands.

So good that you have a diagnosis..

What a gorgeous girl.. She will feel so much better without the over-active thyroid.  I know what that's like and I wouldn't wish it on any human or cat..

Thank you for loving sweet Banoffee! What a lucky cat to have you helping her. I'm glad her thyroid problem is easily fixable and I'm hoping the rest of her tests come out good. Shame on her former owner! She's looking so good now and I know she's getting the life and love she deserves! Best wishes!

Thank you FeralKat, she was even purring at the vets. Haha and slavering as she was trying to check inside her mouth. I'm hoping that she won't feel as grumpy towards the other two  now. As for her former owner, I see her often when I visit my parents. Sometimes I feel like mentioning the situation, but she probably won't care

So glad to hear the vet visit went well! Thanks for the update. It would be hard not to have a few choice words for the former owner, but, as you said, they would probably call on deaf ears...instead- may she become riddles with fleas! (I have no patience for people who abuse/neglect animals)

You are fantastic for all you're doing for this kitty. The happiness in her eyes tells the whole story! Awesome job!
