I have a cat named Kitty. One of my neighbors let her run free without getting her spayed, not cool. When she turned up pregnant, she wouldn't have anything to do with her and even blocked her from coming inside when she saw her running toward her. Very sad to see. She looked heartbroken, I only witnessed it because I had gone out to check my mail. Kitty followed me home and I'm going to keep her and the babies once they're born. With the back story told, my question is how long do you all think we have until she goes into labor? The hair around her nipples fell out about 2-3 weeks ago. She's very round and in the last day or so her tummy seems to have dropped and I've read that that doesn't happen in cats but that's the only way I know how to describe it. We've been able to see the babies move around for at least 2 weeks. It's been about 2 months or so since she followed me home and I have NOT allowed her outside and she will be spayed as soon as it's safe after. Any advice would be great. I've set her up in the bathroom as I have other cats and I want to be sure of her and the kittens safety. I can't really check to see if there's colostrum coming from her nipples because she tries to nip at my hands if I try to touch her belly at all, not in a mean way but protective. Any ideas or advice?

I say she might go in labor in a day to a few days but it a waiting game. Do you have a nesting box ready? Buy some kmr or goat milk(raw goat milk is best) or at least Find out where you can buy it.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have

Thank you for your help, I will read these and then come back if I have any more questions. I have taken in quite a few, I love them as if they were my children lol. I have an old large suitcase with a heating pad and blanket, in the bathroom. I've been having dreams every night that the kittens have come but I wake up and still no little balls of fur :)

If your home is warm enough, a heating pad may not be ncessary as their mother warmth should be enough
Thank you. That I wasn't sure about. I kept reading it everywhere so I put it under the blanket but I haven't turned it on. Since I don't know how many babies are in there, I've been wondering what the limit is on pets, the legal limit I mean. I'm sure it's different from state to state but does anyone know? I don't have a houseful but I have a big heart and I wouldn't have the heart to turn one away if something like this happened again, and it's kitten season I hear. All of my cats are rescues including this little guy. I found him a couple of months ago behind the dumpster cold, hungry and scared. He has beautiful blue eyes. I wish I knew what kind of cat he is :)

That's awesome, thank you. That's understandable. The humane society helps me out if they need meds or to see a vet. Each and every time I've rescued one, I've taken them to the humane society and gotten shots, dewormed, spayed/neutered and treated for fleas and ear mites. One that I rescued a few months ago passed away. The vet couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. I think that's the hardest part.

No babies yet but her area had been wet looking since last night. Is that a sign?

Ok thank you. I just sat in the bathroom with her for a good while, rubbing her tummy, which its weird because she usually bites me if I touch her belly. Not hard just protective like. Also, I felt the babies kicking hard and they are down where her bottom teets are.

I don't think there are any state laws limiting the number of pets. If there is a limit it would be a local ordinance. Some towns don't have a limit, but HOAs within the town may have. You'll need to check locally to find out what applies to you.

Oh, it DOES happens in cats, its in fact one of our best ways to know its near now.

I suspect at this moment Im writing this, she may be delivering, as I saw further down, she both begs to get her tummy rubbed, and lost her mucus plug.   Two others telltales of nearing moment.

Anyways, the exact hour we cant know, because none of the signs are entirely reliable,  As MWallace hinted.  But we do know its very near, probalby hours in this moment of writing, at very most a very few days..

Re the amount of cats.   As long as you manage them well,  litter funcioning, everyone has food, spayed in time, no nuisances,  its seldom authorities bother, even if they have a formal limit.

But they are - rightly so - hard on those who are de facto hoarders - ie, the cat pack is coming outside the control.

Also, even if there IS a limit, new born kittens arent counted in the total number.  Especielly as here, it wasnt your doing, but the negligence and cruelty of your neigbour.

Good luck!

ps.  Tx a lot for helping this little sis of our, in her time of need.  Tx!

Update: Kitty had the babies at some point this evening. There are 4 as far as I could tell. I had a feeling that today was the day, she wanted me to lay in the bathtub with her and cuddle and couldn't lay still for anything. They are just precious. Thank you all for all of your advice and help. Here is a pic
