So I want to start making my own cat food at home so I can save money but a lot of the recipes I have looked up say you need bones (which to me doesn't seem safe) and other ingredients I have never heard of. All I am looking for is something simple to make that won't break my pocket. Anyone have any suggestions? What are the recipes you all use?

Are you looking into homemade raw food or homemade cooked food?

You can start reading these threads on both types of homemade food:

Uncooked bone is safe for cats to eat. Those who do frrankenprey / prey model often give raw chicken wings or necks as part of the diet. Chubs / rolls of raw meat often contain ground up bone and those are usually ground up fine enough for a cat to safely eat.

One easy way to get started with a homemade raw diet is to use ground boneless meat with a pre-mix. The pre-mix contains all of the vitamins and minerals a cat needs. I use the Better In The Raw pre-mix with 2 lbs of a ground bonless chub of raw meat that I buy at the pet store. Sometimes I'll use a grind (raw meat with bone and organ) with Alnutrin for meat and bone. The only other ingredient needed is water. It's easy to mix everything together and freeze into portion sizes. Additional pre-mixes are listed in one of the links above.

I buy chubs of raw meat from the pet store. There are different brands you can find at independent pet stores such as Primal and Bravo Pet and Blue Ridge. I buy mostly Hare-Today grinds, occasionally I'll ask the store to special order boneless meats. I am not aware of any other pet store that sells Hare-Today products. Most people buy directly from the Hare-Today.com web site.

Frankenprey / prey model may be an option. You don't need any sort of supplements. You feed 80% muscle meat, 10% bone, 5% organs, and 5% liver. I'll let frankenprey feeders go int more detail on the diet.
