Yes she is eating very well. Is it ever too early to give her a bath in the sink?

Also.   There are some situation where a sort of washing off is necessary, and there are tricks to lessen the risks.   (for example, if they are heavy flea infested).

But no, we dont take bath  for taking a bath, not with that small kittens.  The risks are too great.

Everything checked out ok at the vet today. They said use peroxide on her tummy along with neosporin. They also said use neosporin on her behind since its kinda raw from the diarrhea that he also said was normal since she is on formula and not solid food. Thanks for those who reply to my questions.

Good news! So now we know she will be fine! I'm sure you are relieved to have her checked by a vet. Now you can breathe easy. Keep up the good work! :)

Is that why you wanted to bathe her?  Because she was soiled from diarrhea?

Using warm running water is one trick to stimulate them - as a byproduct, it cleans also diarrhea soiled behinds....   I or CAtwoman will write more about it, if you wish.

Its of course very necessary to keep the kiiten warm, dry it off, and there is draugh free...

So, still, no bath  because its Christmas day tomorrow. and thus they shall take their every yearly bath either it is necessary or not - a Swedish joke.

But there are situations where we use warm water on kittens yes.

Yes that was why. I found dawn and some cotton balls does the trick pretty well.

Just an update: Lily is eating and gaining weight like crazy. She opened her eyes fully tonight. Should I still measure her kmr or just feed her until she's full?

Okay so in reading through to catch up, I have a few comments.

First off, the huge majority of vets have no clue about newborn kitten care. Not that he wants you to know this, but it is Desitin baby diaper rash ointment that is put on butt if it gets sore/raw.

One thing I learned years ago was what I call the water tap method, rather than rubbing to stimulate, it is pottying under warm water, and it's really the best!

Adjust faucet water temp, nice and warm, not too much pressure, hold baby in left hand on back, stick butt only under water and tap with your fingertip. They get super relaxed and potty.

This keeps their bottoms clean at the same time.

Just be sure to dry well.

If she swallows actively, you can be rather liberal if she wants more.   Overfeeding is a essentially a myth, as long as they swallow actively and get burped as they should.

To give too much is a danger just if they are weak or not swallow properly.   Risk for reflux, and the danger of getting fluid in lungs.

And to give too little is of course dangerous if done often.

Sorry I forgot to describe the bathing & stimulating trick.   But I see Catwoman explained it.   It was Catwomans reinforement, the tapping, which is the extra twich here.  :)

Be of course sure the kitten dont gets chilled.  Not during the process nor after.  No draught either.   So, warm, cozy, dry out well, continue to be some extra warm in there till completely dry.
what happened to you explaining the procedure?

Hi my cats name is Lily too so I felt like jumping in. The fact that you see stool is a wonderful sign in a premature kitten. Soft serve is good. You sound engaged and interested all that makes Lilys chances good. If she only got fed twice last night don't feel bad she'll just be a little hungrier next feeding. We once found a stray mama and took her to the vet leaving the kittens home. Somehow she managed to open the carrier when I was checking the mail. She got loose and all day I searched for her - her babies were still home! We cared for them with cleaning and eating - even took them to work hiding them at the hospital where we worked so we could feed them on schedule. There were 5! All made it and we found good homes for each.

I've been doing a lot of research since taking in a kitten that was born 6 days ago and I still can't help but worry about everything! Most recent worry is that her (at least I think) last poop started Brown but a little runny with a slight trace of blood then turned into a firmer stool almost like soft serve. We've been feeding her every 2-3 hours but last night she was only feed 2x's in 10 hrs. She never got her mom's milk but is slowly gaining weight. She started at 2.4 oz and is now up to 2.9 so about 0.1 per day. Is that normal also with how small she is? Any advice welcomed and thank you in advance. Her name is Lily and she thanks you too.

We have been diluting her kmr will try the drops of water in between meals next but was worried about the oils. I read that the oil keeps the body from absorbing some of the water to make the stools softer but I don't want this to make her dehydrated.

Miss holly,
Sounds like you had your hands full. I don't think I could do 5. My mom has been helping me out a lot but it's still a lot of work! I believe my other 2 strays are also pregnant and unless I need to interfere I don't plan on it lol

If they are slightly with kitten (my personal choice) would be spay-as-is. My cat Lily we found in a apartment trash can! I spayed with her first heat. There are so many cats that never know a warm loving home. [emoji]128546[/emoji]

Oh I plan on getting them spayed. We feed our strays and they let us pet them and what not. There's about 10 of them that come around. Then we have our 2 indoor cats now 3 including our little Lily. One of the pregnant strays I'm trying to bring in because I know some people that would love receiving one of her kittens one ready but would my spare bathroom be to small? We don't use the bathtub in that one so I could put a litter box and a cardboard box in there for her.
