Our cat is recovering from Pneumonia.  He was dianosed 2 weeks ago and his lungs sound clearer.  Waiting for x-ray results.  But he is  still sleeping quite a bit.  He does get up and play with Fluffy and still wants to go out on his leash and harness.  Does it take a cat weeks to recover like it does people? He also started sneezing last week so the vet gave us lysine for him.

I think this is a question for your Vet, as I would imagine his recovery might depend on just how bad the pneumonia was, etc.

BTW, ALL cats sleep lots, you may just be paying more attention than normal since your little guy was so sick.  It's normal for cats to sleep about 16 hours per day!  (lucky devils
)  'course, they don't do it all at once, but take little "cat naps' all throughout the day and night.

He actually perked up last night and was running and bouncing around like a kitten.  Now he is smelling everything.  Just wish I could get this lysine into him.

Yes, it does take them awhile to get over something as serious as pneumonia.  Their little bodies heal while sleeping, so they're going to sleep much more.  If you feed canned food, you can crush the lysine and mix in with the food and a bit of water.

The lysine is a treat flavored gel.  the cat is not going for it.  So far I've gotten a couple of doses into him by putting it on the pill hiders, once by putting a dab of whipped cream on it and once or twice by hiding it in liversausage.  It smells like maple syrup which he likes since he is always sniffing around my pancakes.  He's too clever!

You can pick up the tablets at a health food store or in the supplement section of the pharmacy, Wal-mart or Target.  Just crush between two spoons, add to wet food or even meat baby food and serve.  For lysine to work, it needs to be 250mg twice a day for maintenance or 500mg twice a day for flare ups.  Since it's secreted through urine, you have to give it twice a day for it to stay in the body and work properly.
