So 5 days old, 3 mls every 2 hours should be good. As long as he didn't get fed incorrectly before you had him, he has a chance of being turned around. If not or there is question, he may not have been fed right at first, pneumonia sets in very fast and there is nothing that can be done to fix that.

Assuming he was fed fine, just continue with his feedings, stay warmed, pottied, and loved.

It's all you can do.

Can you tell me how much he was fed before today? How much KMR was he getting total in one 24 hour period? It is Petag brand KMR correct?

I hate to leave now but I have GOT to, will be away about 1 1/2 hours.

Hoping he is still with us and will be right back to check.

Have been feeding hartz pre mixed in the can. It was all I had when I got him. I don't think they fed him at all at the shelter, came straight to me. I will be switching to pet ag as soon as the can is gone or should I switch now? He has been eating 2-3 mls each feeding at least every 2 hrs. So at least 14 mos but up to 21 plus.

Switch asap!!!!

You DO have the PetAG  kmr, preferably the powder version?

If not, do you have possibility to get any other decent kmr?  Goat milk is OK, raw goat milk is excellent

I have the pet again, got it yesterday from the lady who got my five. I will give it to him on the next feeding.

In another tread, had Catwomen told her experiences....  They used Hartz some in her rescue organization.

For some worked Hartz well enough, but not so few kittens krasched.   Bad quality control in the Hartz?  was my theory on this.

When they switched to the the PetAg  KMR in powder, the number of kraschen sunk drastically.

Got 3 mls in him again and potties. But I almost thought he was dead when I picked him up. Very limp acting. Keeping him warm on me again instead of on the heating pad

I'm back, and see you had him on Hartz.......,hmmm...

What Stefan was referring to is my experiences with Hartz formula.

Some kittens would do just fine, no problems, but it seemed like an unusual amt of babies were suddenly not well, near death, when it dawned on me that there was too much coincidence with them going downhill suddenly and the fact that they were on Hartz formula.

When stopped immediately, within 2-3 feedings on Petag KMR they went back to thriving, I do think it must have been the reason that earlier on in using Hartz I had lost 2 babies, before I realized the connection.

If I really think hard about the ones who did not do well on Hartz, it seemed to be the smaller or perhaps weaker ones who would have this reaction. Those who did react had a very sudden decline too.

Anyway, I had all of my bottle feeders toss the Hartz out, never will use anything but Petag brand. Back to having an excellent record of saves, very, very small amt of loss, but sometimes it's the way they were cared for or not before they came to me, and of course those who were just not meant to survive for whatever unknown reason.

Tell me about him, how long have you had him? You said you didn't think the shelter fed him prior? NOT good.

Is he completely limp? I know his head is not tightened at this age but is it literally floppy? Is he swallowing well when fed? Oh I hope for him.....it's just such a shame when they are born, fully developed, and something goes wrong shortly after, likely alot to do with humans intervention to some degree, like if the shelter allowed him to go too long without food. Ugh.

I think he was born at the shelter the day I got him. I don't know if I can bring myself to force feed him again. Every breath seems like it will be his last.

I only put him down long enough to shower. Ever since I fed him last I've been holding him.

I would think he was dead just holding him, but her certainly comes out fighting when it's time to eat or potty! I got 3 mls in him again. The poop was not exactly formed but not liquidy either. Then when I put him on me to warm, he's right back to looking deathly again.

I suppose he is conserving his few remaining forces, for that which is the most necessary.   Using his last reserves as best and optimally he ever can.  Excellent survival strategy.

Going to lay him in his bed now. I fell asleep holding him and don't want to squash him on accident.

Sleep near him and his bed, so he feels you are near and still protecting him.
